You have to have a proficient network administrator and c++ programmer. You should look at the mmo kit. It will make your life easier...MUCH easier, but any strong system on the level that you are talking will need a gifted programmer (as well as art crew, etc). There are some great blogs dedicated to the MMO kit from Dream Games (not available anymore) as well as the Minions of Mirth MMO engine. From reading the blogs, you'll notice that small teams can do very nice things...as long as they have gifted architects and engineers (which includes artists and programmers in this estimation).

TGE/TGEA can make any kind of game you want. The limiting factors are the abilities of yourself and the team that you put together. It's not an out of the box solution, and though the MMOKit and RPG Starter Kit do a lot to help you, they are not complete MMO solutions either. You'll still need to modify script (if not soure code), and you'll still need to implement a massive amount of content of various types (art, textures, story, rules, etc), not to mention the network infrastructure that needs to be set up for it (probably the easiest part). It's a very hefty job, and you should take a few months to read books, blogs, and forum posts by those who have attempted and accomplished it before you attempt it yourself. There's a lot of information in those sources that can help you out.

Good Luck!

How do you have the RTS starter kit, and not have the game engine?

Did you purchase them from GarageGames (the only qualified retailer of the Torque Game Engine)?

Andrew, you may want to talk to GG in that case, since your profile page does not show you as an owner of the engine, and as David says, GG is the only authorized retailer. If you did buy it from GG, you wouldn't be the first person to run into this problem as a website bug, I believe.

Andrew owns neither Torque or the RTS Starter Kit under the account he is posting on.

Andrew,
You should log into the account that you purchased TGE with so that we can help you further.

Andrew,
The Torque community will help you better if you can prove that you have a Torque license.
Then everyone will stop giving you the run-around. If you do own both licenses contact GG I'm sure they will fix it. It's truly the best engine for the price and It'll make any genre you want. I'm using TGEA on a FPs right now and you can make the world huge, but I really don't need to. Just an example in cane you want the MMO to rock. You can normal map the characters for better quality TGEA is definatly the way to go. Yes its a little more expensive, but some of the features are increadible if you wanted to make a more in dept MMORPG.

From the EULA:

Quote:
Licensor grants Licensee a single "seat" to an individual, a limited non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Torque Game Engine

It was not legal for him to sell you his copy. If you want to continue to use it you will need to purchase your own copy.

Thanks!

Basically your own friend scewed you (SOME FRIEND). You should've did your research before buying it from him. Its not GG problem I'm sure they've heard this several time over. On the bright side if you get a license I would buy TGEA if your creating an MMO. Once you buy a licenense you can access forum that will help build an MMO and there are plenty of resources on how to it and how to code it and everything. Good Luck and TGEA would be the better way to go. Dream Lords is an MMO and it was done in TGEA; the graphics are nice and I hear the gameplay is getting better and better.
