Lighting Problems (Or I think it is)

by Dark Bane · in Constructor · 05/15/2007 (5:57 am) · 4 replies

I just downloaded constructor and have encountered a fatal problem. I modeled a simple shed in constructor, and it is fully textured. I'm using Torque 1.4.2, and use the legacy option to export my models. When I open my difs is torque, they look fine until I relight the scene. When I click the relight button, almsot of of the model turns black, but some parts still stay lit up.

Try "Export As Legacy DIF". If that doesn't work maybe upgrade your Torque to 1.5.2.

I'm having the exact same problem in Torque 1.5.2. So, I would appreciate an answer if someone has a solution. This is with Constructor 1.0.51.

I think I managed to get the problem solved. I was using the map2dif_plus that came with Constructor (older version). I tried Deled and was getting the same problem. After making sure I was using the map2dif files that came with Torque GE 1.5.2, the weird lighting problems went away and I could concentrate on figuring out how it's supposed to work when it "acutally works".

The interior of the building is now pitch black. But I found that you can set the Ambient lighting under Scene=>Manage Entities to something like 0.04 0.04 0.04 and it starts looking about right.

If you have portalized your map, ambient light does not pass through the portals by default. If you want the portals to pass ambient light into the interior, you will need to select the portal, choose "edit properties" from the object properties page, and change "ambient_light" to 1.
