Not to sound like a jerk. But I need to complain on this. Why should I pay $50 more for the engine I bought? >.< just to get an update? I believe it should be supported for free ya? I paid $100 and I believe it should be supported just as Dynamix supported Tribes1 (which cost me $5 :-P). GotMilk? didn't charge me $5 an to go from Tribes.exe 1.8 to Tribes 1.11.......
Just a thought.
Just a thought.

I understand what you mean, but Torque Lighting Kit is integrated into 1.5, so the maker of TLK needs to get paid too. GG shouldn't have to pay for that if you are getting it. I really do understand what you are saying, I haven't bought the update yet either.

You do realize that 1.5 not only includes the TLK, but a bunch of new art and models, as well as new textures and weather features. Probably equal to 2 of tim astes in terms of what is hidden and what is intergrated. Do the math, TGE 1.4 100 bucks, TLK, another what..50 bucks, a enviroment minipack 20 bucks, additional models another 20-40 bucks, built in particle editor, bug fixes, not to mention they did already put out constructor for free for use with 1.5.1 /1.5.2. these alone should be good reasons to get 1.5. btw, have you taken a look at AFX? its also based on 1.5 :)

Sometimes we forget that we're usually willing to pay 3rd party developers for new features (kits, packs, etc.), but we get upset when the original developers need to charge for adding those same features into the base product. Just my 3.084 cents...

Have to agree with Edward here. Sometimes there are moves made at this, or any, software company that I tend to piss and moan about, but this isn't one of them. Though this was a point upgrade, I see it more as a full version upgrade because of all the new stuff included. I like the software business model of "buy it now, get everything else for free for life", but realistically if we as game developers want to see new features and great upgrades we need to keep the engine developers fed.Sometimes we forget that we're usually willing to pay 3rd party developers for new features (kits, packs, etc.), but we get upset when the original developers need to charge for adding those same features into the base product. Also you get showtool along with 1.5. It is not big problem paid an upgrade as long it is worth it. TGE 1.5 was worth the upgrade. If you own 3ds max, lightwave and various other software you will get discount when you upgrade but still paid for the upgrade. TGE 1.5 gave discount. To me there is no argument about the price, it was outstanding.

I mean I'm not asking that we recieve stuff that we don't pay for. *I really don't want showtool pro anyways =P* But I would really like and do believe my $100 was worth continued upgrades such as small engine upgrades where there was flaws.
I'm not asking for makeovers to 1.4 or 1.42 *w/e it was I bought =P*, I'm asking for errors and flaws that people have found to be updated. For Free...
Get what I'm going for, or should I clarify more, or do I sound like a blundering fool?

Ok I get that, but what about the basic updates... do the 1.42 or 1.4 people get those updates, to the files that have incorrections?I mean I'm not asking that we recieve stuff that we don't pay for. *I really don't want showtool pro anyways =P* But I would really like and do believe my $100 was worth continued upgrades such as small engine upgrades where there was flaws.

You can also add the modernization kit to 1.5 for free (which is worth a penny or two IMO).

I got the update for free cause I bought tge at the right time :) You can also add the modernization kit to 1.5 for free (which is worth a penny or two IMO).

1.5 was a paid upgrade that included those fixes, some new features, and a couple of good 3rd party utilities. (I say 3rd party even though they're sold by GG because they were originally created outside GG)
AFAIK, 1.42 contains all the 'bug' fixes that 1.5 does. I'll leave it to someone more knowledgeable to correct me here. :)

@James: I'm sure someone else could give you more info, but basically the 1.42 was a free update with bug fixes, etc.1.5 was a paid upgrade that included those fixes, some new features, and a couple of good 3rd party utilities. When I bought 1.4 they had a special going on that said if you bought 1.4 after a certain date/and before a certain date that you would receive the 1.5 update for free. This was last year right before 1.5 was released.

@mb: Sorry, I know better but I got the old "Done, but with errors" when I made the post. Without thinking I tried Refresh a few times while working on something on another screen. Think I've got it cleared up now. When I did get the page to display, though, I had to chuckle a little. ;)

From this point on GG will only be applying new bug fixes to TGE 1.5.X (like 1.5.1 and the forthcoming 1.5.2). We simply do not have the resources to continue to maintain older versions of the engine without having a way to pay for it (like the upgrade cost). Five years of thousands of fixes fixes and huge improvements and features to a product for a single purchase price is quite extraordinary in the software industry.
05/14/2007 (1:19 pm)
Terry is correct. TGE 1.4.2 includes 95% of the bug fixes that made up TGE 1.5.0. Obviously, it did not include the new features so if you want them, then you would need to upgrade (and at a *great* value as Edward pointed out =).From this point on GG will only be applying new bug fixes to TGE 1.5.X (like 1.5.1 and the forthcoming 1.5.2). But seriously, the upgrade cost for 1.5 is definitely worth the money. I've neglected it lately for work on TGB, but 1.5 is really great stuff. And as Matt said, it's the upgrade path for the future of TGE...

You really can't buy much for $50 these days, 2 movie tickets and a meal at the local cheap diner, or a game for your PC if your lucky.

Don't know what the original EULA said, but if it didn't say you were entitled to free updates indefinately then its tough. And you have to have a copy of the original EULA. 1.5 came soon after I bought 1.4. I stopped using Torque and went over to another high end engine instead, but thought that $100 was a small ammount to pay for GG's efforts. Thats coming from someone that has been one of their more vocal critics. You really can't buy much for $50 these days, 2 movie tickets and a meal at the local cheap diner, or a game for your PC if your lucky.
