Showtool advance Idea's

by Kory Imaginism · in Artist Corner · 05/07/2007 (1:25 pm) · 8 replies

I didn't see this in the forum so i decided to make this so when they do make a showtool advance they will know what we want in the software. I would like it if showtool advance supported bumpmapping and normalmapping, detail maps, specular etc. so you can see what your character will look like in game. And support self-shadowing with dynamic lighting. Add a new character importer that will let you import two character with bones at the same time so you can test your collision/ fight animation. Add a sound/ Animation option that will let you see what your character will look like if you had facial animtion on your character that will play back your sound file.

Please add your idea's thank you

I would like to support the good points of Kory James. I don't know if it could be a good idea to support vehicles as well, but most important is the support of normal, spec and maybe height maps and shadow mapping to check models and render previews for other team-members or clients.

Do you plan to create an updated version anyway?

By the way: I would love to see shaders in Constructor as well.

Best regards,
Frank

Here are some other ideas I thouht about for Showtools Advanced for TGEA
-supports multi map and shaders passes (diffuse, spec, normal, etc)
-Model format importor w/ automatic DTS exportor (xsi, 3ds, obj, Fbx. etc)
-model creator (like blender, milkshape, shaper, etc)
-Add support for two model at the same time to test collison, reaction and animations to the each other.

When you speak of model format import in Constructor, are you meaning to burn into the map like DTS's? Because polysoup->Map conversion is a very sketchy process. If so, why not continue with DTS's (which already have a number of export options from various packages) and add shader support? Of course, as opcode collision takes over, the usefulness of BSP is winding down (even though Epic/id/Valve are still making strong use of it).

Sadlly there is no tools to check the model before we load it into TGEA
