Who's alive in this part of the world?

Well, its not only the fact I feel a little lonely tonight :D ... but is anyone still there?
I have bought the kit about a year ago, and for personal reasons I aproached the community just recently...
and I feel like Justin Mosiman and I are the lastest RTS owners alive in the world!
Is other peole out there?
Tell you what... even when this thread may seem *trivial*, I propose to all of you, to salute, say something about you, about your project or whatever you want. This way, we will know that each other is there, and even we can do some synergy and put some movement to the community... So,
Hi! Im new to the RTS SK, but I feel happy to be finally working with it after some time of reading and research. Well, thats all for now. Your turn :)

Right now my projects are around participating on the community as much as I can (to generate some movement, learn, and communicate with people). This have leaded me to *meet* fantastic people here, and I believe that a strong community, would eventually save our asses on production time.
Also improving my knowledge of TGE and RTSKit, by experimenting, improving, playing, reading, documenting, etc, etc. My ambition is to know Torque well.
Those two points converge on some works that we have been doing with James, to the RTS-SK and this community.
And right now with some people Im defining a team for a project around an RTT, cause apparently *fingers crossed* we found a source of funding here in Argentina.
You ask for something in particular?

You seem to have so much energy. I was just curious what you were up to. What is an RTT ? I want to know a little bit more about your game. My website should be up soon and you can see what I am working on.

RTT cames to "Real Time Tactics" (obviously instead of real time strategy). Is a subgenre of RTS, where things like production of resources its not made in battle, and you have a limited number of troops to accomplish a mission; the mission, also tends to be more "tactical", meaning that the battles are more tendant to be completed or won, by taking good battle desitions (instead of creating a rushing massive force).
You could take a look at this thread (and maybe say your opinion): Why do you like playing RTSs?

A) a homeworld style space rts using the rts pack and tge/tgea
B) a more action orientated flight game like freelancer e.t.c
Still havnt decided which i prefer. Im actually not a huge rts fan until i came across homeworld 1 and 2. These are the only rts games i can really get into for some reason (maybe its just the setting / atmosphere of em all).
The above shots are just homeworld 2 models quickly dropped into tge. As you can see there textures e.t.c stand up pretty well considering there well over 3 years old.
My actual project will of course need to use my own ship designs, but this is a good starting point. My next step is to do the jet emmiter trails and see how that looks.
Im just still deciding wether to go rts pack or flight starter kit, or a combination of both.

Sounds sweet Ian.
You should take a look at the Star Wars: Empire at war, the space-battle phase its the most beautiful one.

*sniff sniff* I loved homeworld II. I didn't get to play the others but with Homeworld II I found a niche in gaming that reminded me almost of Tradewars. I would love to see a game that encompassed the old style tradewars game made into 3d world.

Arctic Antics doesn't use Terrain or Water so I had to work references to those out of the classes from the RTS Kit that I am using. Instead I am using just a gridwork of TSStatics that I made reskinnable by implementing TSStatic::setSkinname(). There will also be a few Interiors used here and there.
I haven't worked the RTSUnit into my project yet, but I will start doing that soon because I noticed a considerable framerate reduction with just 15 AIPlayers in the visible portion of the playGUI. I want each of the 4 possible players in a multiplayer game to be able to command up to 20 units and to be able to view up to 80 units with minimal framerate reduction.
My game interface is really simple. It's just move to the location that you click on, and perform the only action available... You can guess what it is.
I'm using an adaptation of the A* algorithm to keep the units from walking off of the platforms that make up the world.
I'll post screenshots as soon as I feel they are worth looking at. So far it's coming along nicely, but I have some hurdles to overcome. One is the total lack of any real GUI elements. This is because I'm spending so much time on the game play itself and I think I can manage the GUI at a later stage.
I am struggling with a problem with the RTSCamera::setCameraPosition() function which only seems to work properly for me when I pitch the camera up to 90 degrees. This might have something to do with the fact that I am only using the RTSCamera class out of all the available classes in the RTS Kit.
I wish you all the best on your projects.
Robert

Hi everyone. I'm glad to be here. I purchased the RTS Kit also and I'm using pieces of it with my project, Arctic Antics. The game involves cute little penguins with big nasty hammers. It's a cartoon theme in a frigid land.Arctic Antics doesn't use Terrain or Water so I had to work references to those out of the classes from the RTS Kit that I am using. Instead I am using just a gridwork of TSStatics that I made reskinnable by implementing TSStatic::setSkinname(). There will also be a few Interiors used here and there.

You will get a remarkable improvement in frame rate when you use LODs. Try getting about 3-5 lods for each object. The last LOD make - it a 3 sided Pyramid!!! It will be so samll that it won't matter.

We are all working hard to give this community new energy, so always happy to see some new -and some old-, faces here. What do you have in mind for you project? (If I can ask anyway)

Torque Owner Swaroop Reddy
I am working on a pre gunpowder era tactical RTS game - "TACTICUS". My mission area is tiny. I have removed the mini map. I am using a hexagonal grid for movement to keep my units from colliding with each other. My company is Dravidsoft LLC. I live in Georgia, USA. I have already hired 3 artists in India for the game. I have a programmer helping me with the coding.
