Who's alive in this part of the world?

by Novack · in RTS Starter Kit · 05/05/2007 (8:25 pm) · 190 replies

Well, its not only the fact I feel a little lonely tonight :D ... but is anyone still there?
I have bought the kit about a year ago, and for personal reasons I aproached the community just recently...
and I feel like Justin Mosiman and I are the lastest RTS owners alive in the world!
Is other peole out there?

Tell you what... even when this thread may seem *trivial*, I propose to all of you, to salute, say something about you, about your project or whatever you want. This way, we will know that each other is there, and even we can do some synergy and put some movement to the community... So,

Hi! Im new to the RTS SK, but I feel happy to be finally working with it after some time of reading and research. Well, thats all for now. Your turn :)

Jey Jeff! Welcome!

Big enterprise you have there, wish you luck! And although sounds like your instructor has a point, the path you chose will help you learn a lot, and likely end up with maybe not the best polished demo in the world, but definitively something appropriate for your class.

I wish I could be more present this days to give you a hand, but I have a couple of other projects between hands, and my days are kind of convoluted. If I can though, I will take a look from time to time to see your advancement!

The tgea version of this same kit is on the GG hard drives waiting for QA approval, if it gets released on time, you'll find some of the issues with this one a bit more polished.

Best of lucks!

Hey novack, you mentioned the tgea version was waiting approval, any update on that? I dont see it on the product page or anything. I'd really like to start playing with it on tgea.

No news about that; the moving to Vegas, the T3D releases and GDC have the GG crew against the wall.

k thanks for the update. Guess it'll be a couple more months. Which is good, I should have my character animation class over with around the time they should get to it.

Thought I drop by. Havn't been here for a while. Can the RTS starter kit still be used to make awesome games to todays standard? If not what is needed to bring it to it?

What I really mean is I look at some newer games it looks like there are some short of shaders being used in the game, not sure if its pixel shaders or just lights. There are more units with more detail, higher texture for the terrian and brighter explosions.

Can the rts starter kit be made to do this? Or are we needing a rts kit using Torque3D? Can anyone give me an example of the upper limits the kit can do. What I need to see is a commerical game that you can compare the kit to.

The reason I need this info is for content pack ideas. I am studing game design at school for the next 2 years and I wanted to pick a subject matter to study. Just getting started in game design so I guess it does not matter at this time. It will in the future thou. Some content packs for RTS starter kit for TGE and some on the next installment on Torque3D

I don't think there is much you can do with the TGE version but I can't speak with 100% confidence regarding that.

The RTS Kit was ported to TGEA and handed in to Torque (formally GarageGames)for review several months ago but haven't heard anything back regarding the release.

In TGEA you the option to use materials with normal maps, etc.

We (Novack, Guy and myself) have been working on a T3D port - well, I say port but in reality it's a rewrite - and a fair bit of effort has been put into it by Dev (Guy & Novack). Unfortunately, other commitments and other considerations have delayed the project. I'd say we were 40% where we want it to be feature-wise. As for feature parity to the original kit, we're 100% there.

Just curious if anyone has heard anything about the tgea version? I would like to play around with it.
I know theyve obviously had much more important things to worry about, im just curious about this in particular.

Thanks.

Hey Drew. I commented a bit on that on a blog recently (here).

Not much more to say about that really.
