Snap only on one axis

I'd love to be able to have "snap to grid" on and drag the axis gizmo to move some vertices or brushes along one axis with precision, while leaving the values for the other two axes locked exactly as they are. I (almost?) never want it to snap on the axes that I'm not dragging along.

Cool, thanks Dave.

Or does "next release" refer to v2.0?

Any news on this? It seems to still be a problem in v1.0.51Or does "next release" refer to v2.0?

Considering that Constructor was released for free and is not technically supported by a development staff, I doubt we'll ever see a full version update. However, Jaimi McEntire has done a lot for Constructor, he's responsible for the incremental fixes and updates that we've seen and I believe that he does it for free in his spare time.

Works ok for me (brushes, faces, and vertices). Instead of dragging the axis gizmo why not simply use the Translate tool itself? I have found a workflow that does produce the correct results, by placing a custom action center at the desired height and using the planar scale tool to scale the corner vertices to zero on the Z axis. But still, the translate tools should work just as well.

I have found a situation in which it definitely doesn't work. Have a look at this map file that I prepared to demonstrate the problem. Try to move the corner vertices of brush 8 down the Z axis so that they meet the corner of brush 9. Whether you use the axis gizmo or the translate tool, the vertices snap along the X and Y axes.I have found a workflow that does produce the correct results, by placing a custom action center at the desired height and using the planar scale tool to scale the corner vertices to zero on the Z axis. (goes of to sacrifice some hexagonal brushes)

Hail Jaimi ! ..for he is the Constructor God (goes of to sacrifice some hexagonal brushes)

@Tony: The only flaw that I experienced by moving the corner vertices of brush 8 on the Z-axis with the gizmo and the Transform tool was that it resulted in broken geometry - and you would think that it wouldn't have. Constructor does seem to behave differently from user to another, weird huh? Given the orientation of the brushes I would expect that movement on the X and Y axes would be different than one would initially think, since moving the gizmo in one direction while the brush in question is rotated is actually causing it to move on two axes. To compensate for that I aligned (rotated) those particular brushes with the X and Y axes and all faces and brushes did move as I assumed they would. If it's any consolation, I've never had much luck in moving vertices that didn't entail using the PlanarScale tool to do the movement.

Yes that is a bug with v1.0. It should be fixed with the next release.
