Runescape was a great game when it came out and then again when Jagex started updating it, but then, once I got into the higher levels, it just didn't seem elaborate enough to entertain me and I gave my adamantite miner to a friend. The treadmilling was half the reason, the other being the limits of interactivity, especially when it came to items that are useless past their only significant use. I just got bored wishing for something better, especially since I already had an idea of what kind of RPG would capture my attention.
WoW just doesn't wow me...

I loved the Warcraft series untill their third installment, which, don't get me wrong, was pretty sweet (despite being a Warlords clone), but they lost their appeal with me since then.Runescape was a great game when it came out and then again when Jagex started updating it, but then, once I got into the higher levels, it just didn't seem elaborate enough to entertain me and I gave my adamantite miner to a friend. Neither, It's difficult to complain about Runescape since it's free. One way of looking at it is that for a free game, there has been a lot of work put into it for the programmers and artists, and expect no type fo money for their work and effort. The other way of looking at it is that compared to games like WOW and EverQuest II, the graphics seem cartoonish and cheap, but then agian, since the game is free why are you complaining.I myself play Dungeons & Dragons: Stormreach

Something that really turns me off of an MMO is predictability. When you always know where to go, what to use, how to use it, who to bring, and when to do it, it just gets pretty boring.
My favorite MMO isn't really an MMO. It's the .Hack// game installments. It was simulated MMO, so you got the feel of being online, without really being online. The thing that I really like about it (besides the story) is the randomness. Each level is randomly generated by dungeon keywords, so it's like a new adventure every time. I've beaten it twice, and it's still fun to play.

I've played both games, and liked Runescape over the two, but didn't really care for either one.Something that really turns me off of an MMO is predictability. When you always know where to go, what to use, how to use it, who to bring, and when to do it, it just gets pretty boring.

WoW is very fun, but still a waste of time in the end. Runescape? You gotta be kidding me, this is a tinkertoy compared to WoW, not even worth wasting time on.

I hate grinding levels, this task is mind-numbing, slow, and just doesn't feel rewarding. Also, when you fight higher level monsters, they may be bigger, or have larger numbers over their heads, but the fights don't feel any more intense than lower level fights.
Sure there's the whole thing with sticking to you pattern of spells, but it's really not that dynamic. You know almost exactly what you're going to do. You can't afford to not know what's going to happen because then you die. And while you're going through some pattern(let's say part of the pattern is to hit monster X with a sword 5 times) you hit the command, and then just sit there and wait for the character to do it the required number of times, then move on to the next action. The whole system is such that it's more like you're guiding A character through the world and levels, rather than you leveling yourself. I just feel too removed to want to spend so much time on the character. It's the whole control layout..... mainly the way you move and look around, i like tight controls mapped directly to something(the mouse for example). Where you don't press a button to be able to move the camera with the mouse, you just move the mouse.
The whole interface system in general feels cumbersome, I feel i'm navigating an interface to navigate the world. You may say it's just from lack of familiarity, but i feel i got pretty familiar with my chars i've played. I like having fewer buttons do more.
I think this whole removed system is fine for games like Final Fantasy, where I have all the time I want(since i'm not on a subscription) and i'm leading a PARTY. But if you expect me to pay to level up some character, I want that character to feel like me.
In summary, I want to feel like I AM the character, and I want to be really rewarded for leveling up, make me feel like a GOD when I reach the level cap.
P.S.
This is just the way I personally feel about this genre, i'm not saying the whole thing should be redesigned to fit the above specs. Oh, and please forgive me if I haven't been entirely coherent, or repeated myself too much(didn't sleep much last night), i'll edit this for clarity tomorrow.

Oh, and I'm for WoW. It is plagued less by the above problems of detachment and tedium.
