Lod Dts

What I want to do is to build a village in which the houses cannot be entered. So it would be easier for 3d guys to build it in Max.
But with standard DTS, the shadow is not as nice as in constructor, so I was planning to bake the dts into a dif, but if I do so, I loose the basic LOD function. The only way I see is by making a LOD Dif, but it will be longer to do.
So my question is:
- how can I make DIF LOD with baked dts (as map2dif don't export baked dts, and standard export doesn't seem to have LOD) ?
- is there a way to make the nice shadow work with non baked DTS ?
