BinTX projects

by Dana Dill · in Torque X 2D · 04/16/2007 (6:15 pm) · 7 replies

Hi,

I just upgraded to the lastest version of TorqueX and I noticed that there are more templetes to start a project in Visual Studio (or atleast there seems to be). There is the SpaceShooter and SpaceShooter BinTx for example. What is the difference between the 2? The SpaceShooter compiles and runs fine but the SpaceShooter BinTx gets errors compiling. Is one for PC and the other XBox 360?

Thanks!

A sloppy answer without actually checking, sorry:

a) Other SpaceShooter is from a previous version (you should uninstall the old version first).
b) Other SpaceShooter is the XNA template that comes with GSE.

Thanks for the answer. I did uninstall the older TorqueX before installing the update. The one with the BinTX in the name still did not work (missing references for an assmebly it seems but have not looked much into it.) The other one worked fine. I was just wondering if there should be 2 templates. I guess I could load it on another computer.

When I open XNA GSE, I only have one SpaceShooter template and it's a TorqueX game. What do your two descriptions read? (Hightlight the template and check just about the 'Name' textbox. My one reads "A sample Torque X game. Blow up your enemies in a surreal spacey environment."
edit: The one I have is called SpaceShooter, *not* SpaceShooter binTX.

Thanks for the post. I have just continued with the Space Shooter game. Still not sure what the binTX template is but the regular SpaceShooter template works just fine.

Just out of curiosity, what folders do you have in your TorqueX installation folder? I have 'SpaceShooter_Template_bin', 'StarterGame_Template_bin' and 'TGBX'. Maybe you have a SpaceShooterBinTX_Template folder there, which wasn't previously uninstalled?
At least the other one works, so it's no major problem though. Good luck with your project!

Thanks again for your post. I am just trying to get my hands wrapped around the whole "torque" products. We at SDS (http://www.sportsdevelopmentstudio.com) are planning our next sports sim. I'm really pulling my hair out with trying to decide what product to use. TGBX, TGB, TGE or TGEA. I love the idea of writing the game in C# because our games are very data intensive with all the stats that we track, but we are wanting to bring more of a "game" feel. There is just the whole learning curve with a new product. Anyway, thanks for your feedback.

The binTX are the NON closed beta templates which give you assemblies for the TX engine versus actual source code which is the regular template (or I believe they might put Pro at the end).

If you have closed beta, you'll have two of each template, and not sure what the third would be as I don't see it when I do my installs.
