Skiis?

Right now I have a mount point on each foot of my character and I'm planning on adding shoes instead of weapons, but I've seen scattered throughout the documentation a little information about ski mount points. I take it that skiis are a left over from Tribes2, but do they still work? Do they work the way I think they work (They attach to the feet) or are they something totally different?

In the brief 10 minutes I played Tribes2 I never saw skiis.
