Would be nice to have some sort of Ctrl + Click to select multiple shapes for grouping and selection sets if this is already here i have yet to find a way to do it

While we're on this topic, is there a way to remove an object from a selection set? I've tried lots of combinations, but nothing seems to work. If it's not in there, consider this a feature request. ;)

Henry:
If you mean to remove an object from what is currently selected then just hold down the SHIFT key and click on the selected item in the viewport. You could also hold down the CTRL key and click on the item listed in the Scene Form on the right of the default layout.
But if you actually meant a Selection Set, then select your objects to remove from a set and use the Select->Save Selection... menu or click on the Create button in the Selection Sets Form found under the Set tab at the lower right of the default layout. This will open the Save Selection window.
From the window choose your existing set from the drop down button. Then choose the Subtract from current selection option and click OK. You'll be asked if you're sure you want to remove from the set, so choose Yes. Your set will now no longer contain those objects.
I hope that helps.
In writing the above I think I can make the choices on the Save Selection window a little clearer for the next release.

The deselect function you describe above only applies to objects, am I right ??
I've been trying to deselect vertices with both the SHIFT+Click and the CTRL+Click approach to no avail.

example:
Shift-Click/drag to add to selection
Alt-Shift-Click/drag to subtract from selection
This way I can quickly manage groups of selections on the fly, like a staircase with multiple brushes, a quick add selection to grab the whole staircase, and a quick subtract selection to remove the railings I didn't mean to select.

Shift-Click does work, but I would also like to see something more like 3D Max selection keys.example:
Shift-Click/drag to add to selection
Alt-Shift-Click/drag to subtract from selection

Jorgen:
It looks like that is a bug with v1.0. It has been fixed for the next release. Thanks for pointing it out.
Brian:
SHIFT+click should already allow you to toggle an individual item's selection. However being able to unselect items by dragging is something I've wanted to put in. So I've implemented SHIFT+ALT+drag to unselect those items within the drag box for the next release. :o)

Have you tried a SHIFT+Click to add to the selection? A SHIFT+Drag should also add to the current selection.
