Vertice Mode

Hi, is vertice mode working? When i select it, my selected brush disappears and i cannot select any brushes.

Thanks for any help :)

Greetings!

It should be working:

1. Build a cube.
2. Switch to the Vertices selection mode if you're not already there.
3. Select two vertices that make up an edge (or one, or three, etc.)
4. Use the Axis Gizmo or Translate tool to move the vertices.

There is also the preference Lock to Selection found under the Prefs tab of the default layout that will limit vertex and face selection to only those brushes that were already selected in the Brushes mode. With this option enabled if a brush has not been previously selected it will draw as dark gray in Vertices mode.

Could you please elaborate on what you're seeing and the steps your performing? Thanks.

Dave,

Say i have an existing brush selected in brush mode. It is highlighted in all views. When i switch to vertices mode, that brush is no longer highlighted and i cannot select any other brushes either. Face and Brush mode are fine though. Hopefully that clarifies what is going on. I have not tried creating a new brush yet, i was just messing around with some current maps i have, but i can try that when i get home.

Thanks,

This is probably not what is causing your issue - but in the tech support tradition of making sure it isn't something simple: you'll have to click directly on the vertices or drag boxes around them - clicking within a brush's volume will do nothing in vertex mode like it does with brush and face modes.

Understand :)

I was able to get it to work.

I'm used to hammer/worldcraft where when you go into vertice mode, the brush you have selected becomes transparent and all the vertices have dots on them. I was able to click enough in the general area to get the individual vertices to highlight. This is kind of difficult for complex structures--especially when needing to select opposing vertices. Dragging around the desired area tends to get vertices from other brushes that i don't want selected.

I would say other than that, i really, really like what you guys have made. But i hope you can change the vertice mode mechanics, imo that would make it just about perfect. :) It's the little things you thought of like the sun control that really impress me, i'm sure i'll find more of those too the more i mess with it.

Thanks again!

One other thing, texture replacement would be great. I have not found that option yet, but sometimes it's nice to do a mass replace of a modified texture, or for weeding out a deleted one.

Here is the procedure to do a mass replacement of a material:

1) Switch to Faces selection mode
2) In the bottom right hand corner of the Default Layout you'll see three tabs (Undo, Sets, Select). Switch to the Select tab.
3) You should see a Mat option with a drop down arrow on the right side of a material name. Use that drop down to switch to the material you want to replace.
4) Hit the + on the left side of "Mat". This should select every face in the scene that uses that material. (- deselects them).
5) Use the Texture Browser or the Materials Form to pick a different texture and then hit Apply. Voila! All the selected faces in the scene get the new material!

Also, it sounds like you really want to enable the "Lock to Selection" preference. This will limit your vertex and face selections to only the brushes you have selected in Brush mode (much like Hammer).

Thanks again for all the help, that did it!

I just recently found that after translating vertices, red edges appear. I'm thinking the verts are snapping to the grid, in which it bends the faces of the brush.
I tried to shorten the grid size (.0625 to be exact) to where the verts are exactly on the grid and then moved them, but it still gives me red edges??

The only way I found around this problem is to recreate the brush.
I also found this problem if I translate the face of the brush.

Yes...the concave detection code (red edges means it is a concave edge) sometimes reports false positives. Reloading the scene can help those go away but not always. It is a bug on my list but I'm not sure I will get to it for 1.0.1 (zones have priority right now).

Also, be cautious of grid size less then 0.25, My experiments have started to unravel below that point as the map becomes larger and more complex.

I would still request that when in vertice mode the selected brush be highlighted as it is in brush mode. It would also be a nice addition for the vertices to all be shown on the brush with the ability to select them without having to drag the area. Just a suggestion.

Thanks again :)
