I think the problem lies in having a system that is cross platform? Since the MPEGs/BIK etc. systems cost money(?) and most of the 'free' (AVI/WMF etc) stuff is very M$.

Mind you don't know the deal with DivX or something? Anyway on a windows platform I cheated for mine and used a shortcut batch file that played a movie then the game (and had another shortcut to launch without the intro). Pretty lame, but it works :)

Well, there is OpenDivX, which is available/in development for all major platforms... but I'm sure there is a bunch of work to do to get it integrated with Torque... and I don't know anything about video codecs - but maybe someone else is ready to try this?

I don't mean to be rude but this thread has been discused once before here on GG. You might want to check out that thread for the ideas and suggestions that people submitted.

The problem currently, and the reason why I think the mpeg layer was cut out of Torque is because of the battle between Open Source, Microsoft, and Real Technologies.

Now, I'm not a laywer, but it sounds like anyone who uses DivX or the mpeg4 layer are going to walk into a lot of licensing problems.

Though it isn't my favorite program, what about Quicktime? It's cross-platform...I think there's even a linux quicktime (though I could be wrong). Anyone know the details about liscensing this?
