Thinking of making a new art pack

I'm Thinking of Making a new Vehicle art pack for GG, I'm just curious how well art packs do in the community and what they average a month, because I don't want to waste anyones time.

Art packs seem to sell pretty dang well depending on quality, quantity, affordability, etc. I think we've seen plenty of car packs. If you want something to sell well, make something no one else does, like an animal pack or some such.

I think it would depend on the vehicle(s). I think Jonathon is right in a way about the car packs. The "show me how it is done" aspect has certainly been covered however, i think that there are still enough of us non-artists that could really use some stuff. Perhaps a small fleet of everyday vehicles ( quantity/variety of GTA:SA maybe ) or military vehicles ( similar to the content of a BattleField: x game ).

Maybe it is just because it is hard for me, but I think characters would be the biggest sellers. Not just a "show me how its done" pack, but good high-quality ( not saying anything derogatory about the current character packs ) characters with lots of animations.

I guess my feeling is that the "howto" packs are pretty well covered so I guess that raises the bar for content pack developers/artists.

When I say vehicle packs; I mean a number of things. Military w/ animations, space packs, car packs, things like this all in one pack.

I've also thought about a character pack, because Torque Motion has an animation pack.

I was also looking for an answer from someone who has a pack on GG. I was curious abot the sales average:
is it enough to live off say $2000 to $3000 a month

Although I haven't created or sell any content packs, I think $2000 - $3000 TOTAL is more likely than per month.

I would say go for it, you never know what doors it just may open. I agree with Jonathon some animal pack would be nice.

Yeah I'm sure some packs do really great. I think its got to be some what usable in most games have a lot of compatibility and I feel that note should be taken on to make sure it works and looks good in TGEA as its nearly released it should be a selling point as not many packs have got support for it all.

And the ones that do don't seem to take full advantage of the best set-ups for use with TGEA. In stead of just a texture with a normal-map at best, instead looking in to making parts glow, and reflect etc.

I am currently developing a 'civilian' style pack, with standard humans and common animations (talking, emotions etc) but im not sure~

Would there be enough interest to warrant this?

(sorry to hijack :) )

Yes, a 'civilian' style pack, with standard humans and common animations (talking, emotions etc) would be useful if it has enough animations in it and comes at a decent price.

This goes for any art/animation/code pack.

A precipitation pack would be cool.

@Sean: you mean a "hurry up" pack ;-)

As someone who has contributed to a number of packs, I can say that unique stuff sells much better than duplicate objects. The best advice I could give regarding the matter would be to think about hover vehicles or spaceships, rather than cars and trucks.

There is a few packs that need to be covered, like Scifi packs, a sample mech pack would be a great help. mechs have other items like double weapon mounts and issues that a new dev might need a guide for.
