Missing texture effect..

by Jan Sorensen · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 02/10/2007 (8:03 am) · 9 replies

Hi all..

I have to day buy a TGEA license :-).
When I start the demo, all "Refraction, Complex Materials and the Cupe Map Reflections effect missing, I just see a "light gray" texture ??

When I start the "old" TSE demo everything is okay and looks fin. Can anybody here tell me what there is wrong? I use a TI4600 graphic card DirectX9C and the newest Nvidea driver for TI4600. What is the different between TSE and TGEA on this point.
Maybe I have do something wrong in my setup?

Hope for help, regards Sorensen Denmark :-)..

GF4 TI4600 is only DX8.0a compatible (Pixel Shader 1.3), there are alot of the effects that require Pixel Shader 2.0 which in the case of Nvidia would be GF FX and above.

Shall I understand it on this way.. One of the different between TGEA and TSE is, TGEA use a "higher" number of Pixel Shader than TSE? And I shall just buy a new card? Wauw..

Not in my computer, please read my question again :-).. Maybe it's a question about setup, but both TSE and TGEA is setup to default in "Options"... so ??

Yes buy a new card, that old Nvidia doesn't support the shaders. The effects you are missing is because of you card, and he's correct TSE is now called TGEA, and are the same thing. Just a name change, that's all:)

Yes okay okay, I have understand the message :-D, I buy a new card...

Maybe I am a little stupid, but again the same quest, why works TSE demo from 2006 so good on my computer with Refraction, Complex Materials, Reflections and so, no problems,, and TGEA do not?? There must be a difference between TSE and TGEA, like it or not :-D, that was my question from the beginning, can anybody tell me, what is the different or do I something wrong (except by a new card).

I do know that recently because of the direct x sdk, there is a problem with lower class shaders below 2.0 not compiling, I'm sure this has something to do with it, but they are the same engine;) you have to remember what you've been getting is the development versions as they came out, think of it like an evolution, the software evolves and gets better and more refined, as well does the name as the advertising dept and people in-charge get more feedback, the name too has evolved:) make sense now?

Hi Bobby.

I'm don't sure I'm exactly understand what you mean, but maybe it can be a kind of explanation, maybe TGEA is "more developed" than TSE, but not more "universal" for all computers :-)..

I can tell you. The TSE demo engine I get last year is not the same as TGEA engine from today. The TSE engine is on "4.100.159 byte" and TGEA (from the example map) is on "4.448.256 byte", also a different on 348 kb. ?? (GG has compiled both).

Let us stop here. I buy a new card and I will "be in wondering" :-D and try to forget it for now.

Regards Sorensen.
