I saw this when it was released last week. I still think it looks like a close up of a Duke action figure.

I think one reason they kept delaying is to do it up in full shader tech.

We can see HDR and maybe some relief shading. LOL look at his neck.

I remember when they blew off there build on the quake 2 engine there was a revolt.

Was supposed to be set in Las Vegas. I remember "Duke TCP" let you plat on internet. There was always a deathmatch and like all dukes shooting each other. It was hilarious.

edit add engine clarification statement from 3dr

Gamasutra story on DNF engine is wrong
Gamasutra today covered the Duke image that was posted at their site earlier this morning with this story. However, we wanted to offer a correction to the story that they posted. Their erroneous text:

Quote:
Since that time, the title has undergone numerous changes in technology, currently set on id's Doom 3 engine.

That is incorrect. The game is, and has been for quite a long time based on Unreal Technology. That is all.

Quote:"I guess I'll reconfirm what I said last night. That's an in game, real-time shot of Duke standing in a random hallway. It was really done as a small teaser for a job ad on Gamasutra.com. Nothing more.

I'm glad some of you enjoyed it, and we'll show more later as we start to wake from our slumber and decide how best to show the game off."

Hallway? Looks like he's in a vehicle and the scene has a motion blur.

GameProducer.net: I heard the famous slogan "When it's done" first time said by Remedy & 3D Realms. How do you approach this attitude nowadays? Do you have no deadlines at all? What it really means to you to publish a game "when it's done"?

Scott Miller (3DRealms CEO): Well, we have a simply philosophy that if you're going to make a game, do it right. Another words, the game comes first. Most publishers do not see the value of this philosophy, and therefore the majority of their games are not hits. Also, since we retain ownership of our game brands, it is in our best interest to insure that our games are big hits, because not only do we like those fat royalty checks, we also like to see the valuation of our brands exceed 10's of millions of dollars. In 2002 we (us and Remedy) sold the Max Payne brand for nearly $50 million, and that was after earning some $25 million in royalties. So, was it worth the 4.5 years to make Max Payne right?

Duke Nukem 3d had the best gameplay of any FPS that I've played. Yes, it was better gameplay than Quake. Yes, I know the animations were just sprites.

Some things I liked about it:
1. Trip mines - best implementation of these I've seen.
2. Pipe bombs - probably equaled elsewhere, but first done right
3. Shrink gun
4. Freeze gun
5. Rocket from up close killed the shooter too. I hated Quake for turning the rocket launcher into practically a melee weapon. It all became about the rocket launcher.
6. Style - The quake line really took it all too seriously.
7. Mouse pad - I only recently gave up using this mouse pad. It had the best texture and was the best mouse pad ever. I'm headed to ebay now...

This will either be the one of the Best FPS's Ever made, or a pretty average overhyped flop.
I'm hoping for the former :P I want Duke back for duty in Full-Form!

Since both Max payne and Prey turned to be hits, I still have faith in DNF. Because 3dRealms still kick ass.

Like we cared for special effects? We would have grabbed every duke game there is, no matter what quality its always best.
I bet it will probably be above 18,cause with great graphics everything will be sooo clear. Sister Act 3 banner remember? :D

I saw that image on wikipedia months ago.. i dont think that means something... i think this game is frozen in time and will never be released..

they already have taken more than 10 years developing it .. i dont think that it would be finished anytime soon or just anytime.. hehehe

i wonder if the developers are victims of some strange egypcian curse that prevents the game to be finished and stay on development for all the eternity
