Downloading TDN

by Max · in Torque Developer Network · 01/18/2007 (9:36 pm) · 4 replies

TDN is a great source of torque knowledge, but it is only available off-line. I see this a problem because people can't rely on the internet. You could be stuck on one problem for 3 days just because you were disconnected.

But wouldn't it be great if you could download your favorite section of TDN? That way you could be disconnected and still get as much help as you need.

This is more of a request, than anything. Please make a CVS Checkout for

That would be great. If you don't want to/can't, thank's anyways.

Well, there's some problems with having it available offline. The content is updated regularly, so I guess you'd need to have it sync up the content with a program. Shouldn't be too difficult if you're just downloading the pages themselves.

The other issue would be possibly using it out of its intended purpose. Not sure if GG would like to have it available elsewhere or not....

I understand what you are saying, but it is not like anyone can't just copy and paste text and give it to someone. This takes time, but it will certainly lead to it not being used for its intended purpose. I mean't something that just downloads the text and images from each tutorial/document onto your computer quickly, then you can re-sync whenever you feel you need an update.

People were begging for downloadable documentation for years, before TDN came out [there was an entire set of docs on the GG website that you could concievably use for this], and it never happened.

Wikis are pretty singularly un-friendly to downloading.

Wiki data is stored in a database I believe. So couldn't it be possible to read the database and set the text of a page have separators and headings just like the normal page, except it is very save friendly?
