Mac OSX slow after changing to Open Directory

by Bart Van Belle · in Marble Blast · 01/05/2007 (4:53 am) · 1 replies

We are running a lab at our school with 25 iMacs, all running OS 10.4. The kids looooooove MBG and they play as much as they can. We recently switched from local user authorization to server based authorization by switching to Open Directory. Since then, MBG has slowed to a crawl. It doesn't much matter how many computers use MBG, they are all slow. The game is started from a local drive.
My kids are unconsolable, can anyone please help?

Thanks!

I am really looking for a answer to this as well as I am in the same boat.

This is what I have found out so far.

MBG seems to write several small files (5kb-10kb) to the users library at a fairly quick and consistent rate and this seems to be the issue. Over our network with 30 users... the server just can't keep up.

Seems the answer would be to create an alias to write to the local library rather than the home directory but I'm not sure. Any ideas would be really appreciated.
