Thanks for the info but is there anyway to make it bigger without making the texture bigger?

Your only option is to make a larger square size.
This question gets asked nearly every day, and the reply is almost always: buy Atlas.
It'd be nice if there was some kind of lee way, like spline geometry for smoother bumps, but there's not and I guess not going to be.

The terrain grid is locked in at 256x256.Your only option is to make a larger square size.

Can you explain what does changing squaresize?

I never understand why people complain that terrain size is to small. When my group first worked on TGE we found that 256x256 was actually too big. We have went with smaller zones and it has worked out well so far.

Why would you want 1 foot squares? So you can have a lot of detail such as little craters you can dive into for cover and small puddles in a completely destroyed city environment. A one or two metre square crater looks like ass. You need to be able to have some interesting variation in shapes.

Well, the problem is one of resolution. It depends what you want. If you want to do a first person shooter with really detailed terrain so that each square is say 1 foot x 1 foot then you are really going to have tiny maps. Why would you want 1 foot squares? Even gently rolling hills look like jaggy with eight meter spacing.
I have 2 meter spacing and my stream looks like it was hacked out with a cleaver.
It'd be nice if there was a way to smooth them out.
