What qualifies a game as best? Graphics, game play, story, promotion?

Warcraft was, by far, one of the best RTS games made in its time. Using TGE and RTS Starter kit, recreating Warcraft would be simple. I think a better question is, why make a game LIKE something else, when you can make something completely new. This is, of course, speaking in terms of a public game release as an Indie developer. For practice purposes, though, yes it is possible to make an RTS game like Warcraft.

I'd personally have to put Once Upon a Time way up the list of damn good games made with TGE.

Tribes II wasn't too bad. I think Torque even had its roots in the first Tribes and Red Baron but I could be mistaken.

@Eric

Technicly games like Tribes, Tribes 2, Starsiege, etc. (all games made at Dynamix) shouldn't technicly count considering they weren't actually made with the same engine that people are buying and usering here (aka. Torque or TGEA).

Based on the Torque titles I have played I always felt the following games were pretty good examples of what you can do with Torque.

Think Tanks - fun, simple, highly entertaining. A great example of what it takes to make a great game and that is polish polish polish!
Tube Twist - a great puzzle game that really shows what you can do with the engine when you start to add new components and features to it that do not normally come with it.

No way, Logan does not know what he is talking about.

Lore was much more exciting.

The only two Torque games I've bought so far have been Minions of Mirth and Dark Horizons: Lore Invasion so they must be the best. :p

I think Think Tanks is the best game so far.

But I can really see AirAce doing extremely well.

In what engine is made Warcraft then?

They created their own engine from scratch.

I'm quite surprised none of you mentionned Darkwind: war on wheels, it's a great TGE 1.3 + TLK game, even if it's still in beta and hard development process.

STef ;-)

@Lunaticu

I am currently programming on a commercial RTS game that is a mix between Warcraft and SimCity using TGB. Yes, it can and is being done.

Ok... Now i am getting a nice overview of Torques's cababilities... Thanks

I have another question :

I just found out there is an engine called Unreal used for the Unreal Tournament game.Is that better then Torque? What are the differences between them?

Well, in my biased opinion the answer is obviously ThinkTanks. Buy it now!! ;)

Secondly, since the Unreal Engine was not used to make ThinkTanks or Rack 'em Up Road Trip, clearly Torque is better.

On a side note, please don't respond to this post with links to Wikipedia that point out the logical falicies of the above statement. Thank you. :)
