I know that this isn't starwars.com but I just got back from the movie and I thought it was GREAT. So if you saw it tell us (me) what you thought of it. Now I must wait 3 more years for the final act.

I don't know... I think the Matrix trailer was better :) Actually it was 10x better then Episode 1, but I thought it still had too much cheesy dialogue. But the action scenes and FX are insane.

If that pathetic POS Jar Jar Binks character has any dialog at all in this episode I will definatly not see it. What a waste of time that character was to create!

I heard it was much better than Episode 1 (which was dreadful IMHO), but not great. At least not as great as the original Star Wars episodes, although that's probably personal preference. I'm going to wait until it's been in the theatre for several weeks/months before I watch it. It isn't earth shattering enough for me to see it before then.

Thankfully Jar Jar only has about 5 lines and is barley in the movie.

I dont know. I think that the experience of seeing the movie, more than the actual movie itself, was just extremely fun.

I went to see the midnight showing last night, opening night. After waiting around for an hour, playing videogames and looking at all the weird star wars fans, they let us into the theater. It was packed. A tiny bit before the movie started, two people (about 17 years old I would guess), both dressed in costumes (one was Darth Maul and one was Anakin or Obi Wan I suppose) got up right in front of the screen, and pulled out lightsabers (the plastic kind that extend and collapse, and have light on the inside). They then proceeded to duel each other, and it was quite nice. The duel even had the same flavor as a real Star Wars duel. We all gave them a standing ovation. :)

Then there were the previews, and yes, the Matrix one was amazing.

Finally, the actual movie started. It took a little while for the plot to start moving along, but after about the first hour, it really started picking up. By the end of the movie, it was unbelieveably amazing. The end was easily as good as the other movies. And the massive ground battle was the coolest star wars battle on a planet, ever, period.

Sure, the movie has its flaws.
-The writing is relatively unoriginal.
-The local high school play had better actors than this movie.
-Jar Jar exists
-There isnt enough cool new music (way to much is reused IMHO)

However, these dont really detract from the real strengths of the movie, and overall, it is quite a good movie, and I would venture to say that it is of equal calibur as the original 3. Go see it.

I hope the best :D

@Anthony, why the final act ??? Star Wars is a Story with 9 Episodes. The next 3 parts will play after the Episode 6 (return of jedi)

I feel stupid knowing this, but the final 3 aren't going to happen according to anyone I've spoken to.

For that... I'll go give my self a wedgie.

Lucas I believe said he would like too see someone else do 7,8,9. I hope Sam Raimi or Kevin Smith do them.

GL has said the only person he would trust to do Ep 7, 8 and 9 would be Steven Speilberg....so I'm not holding out much hope.

As for AToC, the movie was kickass and as someone in my EQ guild said, "Yoda goes off like a frog in a blender". There are some slight continuity problems with it still, but the storyline has so many parallels with ESB that it just does a great job of starting to tie things together. If Ep 3 is as good, and all 6 get released to DVD then there will never be any reason to watch Ep 1 every again, which can only be a good thing :)

And Matt, damn I wish I was as cool as you.

Everyone does. In time... one will learn how to be as cool as me.

Seriously (yes, that was a joke), only reviews I've seen of the movie being "good" were on Star Wars fan sites like Ain't it Cool News or most "gamer" sites and in the "pop" news magazines like Newsweek and USA Today.

The consensus is that episode two is far better than episode one, but is no where near anything in any of the first three films.

Main flaw being the lifeless dialogue and a dull and unemotional story. Roger Ebert goes as far to claim this is due to wanting it to be easy to translate and release around the world. Sarcasm and subtle emotion don't transfer well in other languages, so it could have been cut to make the film equally good (or bad) across the boards.

I might see it, just definately not in the theater.

sounds just like Pearl Harbor but in space a long time ago in a place far far away.

It was a dark and stormy night . . .

I went to see PH in the theaters, after 1.5 hours of lifeless dialogue, dull and unemotional, sappy predictible love story you get to actually see some really cool scenes, the attack.

The power goes out in the theater.

My friend and get free tickets to come back and see it at a later date, we showed up 1.5 hours after the movie started just to see the awesome battle sequences.

I predicted months ago when I first saw the teaster POSTER in the theater that it would be Pearl Harbor in space.

lots of boring waste of time sappy love story crap then the big battle at the end, sounds like PH in Space to me.

Hehe, you'd be surprised how many times I've heard people refer to Episode 2 as "Pearl Harbor in space".

Maybe that's said a lot, because it is?

I'm not a Star wars fan, but I did like the original three very much. You don't have to be a fan to know they were good films, but as a fan you're pretty much going to see anything Lucas makes.

Full disclosure: I am a huge Star Wars mark.

I thought it was fantastic. Forget about cheezy dialog, this is Star Wars. Go watch Russian arthouse cinema if you want something deep. Actually, there's not a whole lot of dialog in this at all, just a very large amount of ass-kicking.

Btw, The Matrix Reloaded teaser was just blah. How people can snicker at Star Wars cheez yet think Keanu "Whoa" Reeves looks cool in those goofy shades is very amusing.

Great movie ! Great fun. The whole theatre erupted in applause when Yoda began laying the smack down on the bad guy.

Saw it on digital projection here in San Diego.

I thought it was great, especially the last hour. The editing was a bit uneven in the middle, Lucas could have snipped a good 10-15 minutes out and made the film even better, IMO, but overall..pretty kick ass.

And I'm sorry to do this but I agree that the Matrix teaser looks pretty blah. I loved the first movie, but this teaser didn't get me excited, it made me worry about the very real danger that the sequels wont live up to the original..To be expected, I guess, since the original was pretty unhyped before release and now everyone is waiting for the sequels..but...blah. The shots of the agent & the birds flying forward was pretty good, the shot of morpheus holding a katana, pretty good, the rest looks like crap. Here's hoping the movie turns out better than the teaser lets on...

OTOH the MIB2 trailer is pretty sweet.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will once I get back from PinkPop (hey... with a little luck, they'll play it ON PinkPop, but not likely...)

The most heard comment about it (besides going into a JarJar killing spree) is the way the story is told. Too slow, not enough surprise, etc.

This is the way Star Wars is told!!!! In ALL films! Go review 4-6 and you'll see. The plot is told slowly and a bit predictably. It's done in 4,5,6 and now to 2 (forget eps 1).

Sure George Lucas could have told it in another way, with lots of surprises and cunning twists in the plot like "The Game" or "The Matrix" which blow you off your chair with their plots. But that just wouln't be Staw Ward would it? Maybe it would make the film better, granted. But iot wouldn't have the same Star Wars 'feel' the other 3 parts have (again, forget Eps I here....).
