Most influential Torque Engine users?

by Leadwerks · in General Discussion · 09/22/2006 (3:46 pm) · 13 replies

What are the most influential companies and universities using the Torque Engine? I am trying to compile a list of the biggest and most influential names that use the Torque Engine, either for development or for teaching.

I vaguely remember it being mentioned that NASA are using Torque for one of their projects.

Josh,

What do you need the list for?

@Josh

I heard that NASA was using it as well. Most of the others are those whose games you see on the site. I think that due to the nature of it generally being an engine for indies, it is hard to know who is using it.

@Benjamin Bradley

Maybe to edge up the competition for Constructor. Oh how sweet Constructor shall be! :)

Benjamin, I am looking for universities and companies that use Torque, 3D Game Studio (A6), or Blitz3D in their curriculum or business, to identify potential users for my program 3D World Studio.

I am promoting it at ITT-Tech Louisville, where I teach. Note it isn't standardized yet within the full ITT system.

If anyone is interested, here is a good list of universities:

I don't know about recommending only those sorts of schools. As a college sophomore and an intern now at GG, I think it's probably more important to have strong critical thinking skills and to learn CS without a specific focus on games. Learning the theory behind the programs is probably much more important in the long-term than learning the specific tools that are used today. I'd recommend a liberal arts school with strong CS. It's easy to learn tools on your own, but not theory, best practices, and fundamentals. A lot of the developers I've kept a close watch on often recommend a traditional 4-year school over one of the games-industry specific ones for these reasons.

Or, maybe I'm trying to rationalize my choice ;)

Is there any way to sift through the Companies pages here?:

Can you sort through them by ltd's, corporations, etc.?

Thanks for the tip. I have an acquaintance who is pretty high-up in NASA engineering. I'll give him a call.

Thanks for the list leadwerks, and tom does bring up some good points. I've read many articles also suggesting the same thing.
