My plea for MS 4 before a long weekend or How to Write a Letter

Dear GG guys,
First some flattery:
I love your products, they have enabled me as an Indy and a student to do far more in the area of game dev then i could ever be capable of with out them. I find them well written (better than if i had written them myself) and the support for them is excillent (i have never had a serious question go un-answered).
Then an emotional appeal:
Im a College student and the semester just started, so this sadly means that my free time is going to rapidly decrease. However this weekend i do happen to one of two 4 day weekends (the other one is thanksgiving, yeah i know only 4 days for thanksgiving WTF!) that are part of the fall semester.
Now some begging:
If you have a working version of TSE milestone 4 that is not too broken could you please please please put it up for download. I know its a product you are activily working on and as a result it could currently be in a broken state due to any of 1 million reasons, but if it isn't any sort of teaser you can push out to us before this 4 day weekend would be greatly appreciated by me, even if not everything works.
Conclusion:
Thank you for your time
Pauliver
Post Script:
P.S. anyone who considers throwing some flame into this post (just finished reading all of the TGE 1.5 stuff so this warning is going in) Be a real man and start your own post, don't hide under mine's skirt.

As for sexy words: my personal favorite, "strawberries" with a British accent -- works every time. =)

Oh yes, "aluminum" sure does need another syllable! How about "aliuminuminium"? Say that 10 times fast, I dare ya. =PAs for sexy words: my personal favorite, "strawberries" with a British accent -- works every time. =)

Wait a moment, they're on pacific time! That means that it's only just about 4pm over there, leaving another hour of hope for friday to remember.

Whilst I can tolerate the American habit of removing letters from British English words, I can't help but wonder why they remove an "i" from "aluminium", but leave it in "uranium", "titanium", "chromium", "vanadium" etc.

Theater vs. Theatre
Color vs. Colour
... there is lot's of that ... like "aluminium". I'm used to talk a lot (years back, in Europe) with different ppl from all around the world... and..
I totally agree with what Hewster said:
P.S. Yeah, me too - I wanna look at MS4 :) But let GG do their job!

Maybe it's all the result of some American misspelling "aluminium" a hundred years ago. =)

However... Americans are too good at assimilating things (ideas, places, resources, etc) that belong to other cultures, and making it their own--regardless of how akward it will become.
If the rest of the world uses "Aluminum", then the Americans have done it again... hahaha... So perhaps we should find out how individuals from Japan or Russia pronounce it...

Hmmm seems that "Aluminium" was first named by Humphry Davy, a Cornish Chemist (initially it was to be called Alumium, it really should have the "ium" to match the other names of the other metals). That means that the British pronounce and spell it correctly... doh.However... Possibly arumirium and aluminiumavitch. In Ireland if we see it we drink it, so nobody has discovered it yet.

I mean, what is it that is holding you back from doing whatever you need to in MS3 for instance? What technology is missing from MS3 that would provent you from actually making progress on a game?
I'm quite serious, I just would like to know.
I personally, havent had any issues since we got the original atlas code-drop. Sure, there are some visuals that dont work, or sort right or whatever. But nothing that prevents us from moving forward with the game.
Course I'm as interested as anyone to see MS4 and get it incorporated into our own build, but from the feature list I remember, I cant think of any major show stoppers being addressed.

I just wanted to post on the already WAAAAY off topic thread, that I dont quite understand WHY people are waiting for MS4 particularly?I mean, what is it that is holding you back from doing whatever you need to in MS3 for instance? It's no way of stopping me developing a game. Our project is based on TGE and we are going quite well..
If I can say that dev.game on TGE is my job, then - playing with TSE is my hobby :)

Phil - I wait for MS4 just to have a look at the performance, new features, at the code itself, etc..It's no way of stopping me developing a game. Our project is based on TGE and we are going quite well..

I don't think anyone has said in this thread that MS4 is holding them back?
(correct me if Im wrong)
I think this is maybe the 4th time I've read exactly the same post from you...
whats your problem man? yeah my old bike works fine, but I'm expecting
a new one very soon, with extra gears, shiny chrome handle bars and
a softer seat, so I'm excited OK?
Now please go back to your boring (well my lifes just great as it is) room,
and we'll let you know when MS4 is released, then you can merge with
you exsiting code-base and be completely underwelmed by it all.

I think MS4 is coming a lot sooner than most of us expected, but once that announcement was made a lot of people like myself became excited about being able to get things ported over and began shader prototyping, etc. There are a lot of things I can only simulate though until I port everything over as there is a lot of custom animation and mounting code.
I'd also think that a lot of people who are hoping to generating a buzz about their products would rather hold off on in-game screenshots until they have MS4, as they will look nicer with proper lighting.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can give you my reasons for anticipation of MS4. I abandoned TSE a while back and ported all my code over to TGE to focus on the gameplay aspects when there were many broken features and performance problems with skinned models. It was too difficult to work with the AI when I was getting 10 fps, so I ported things over to TGE and worked on it from there, putting off any specific TSE required features. I don't want to port it back to TSE until MS4 to avoid having to do a painful double merge.I think MS4 is coming a lot sooner than most of us expected, but once that announcement was made a lot of people like myself became excited about being able to get things ported over and began shader prototyping, etc. There are a lot of things I can only simulate though until I port everything over as there is a lot of custom animation and mounting code.

Not stopping me from getting stuff done though. The real job does that :(
09/02/2006 (10:25 pm)
I was just looking for Milestone 4 to release because the project I'm working on still has to finish merging to 3.5 and we figured instead of merging stuff that could potentially break between 3.5 and 4, just wait a couple weeks and save on any headaches. Not stopping me from getting stuff done though. The real job does that :(

But there's always other stuff to do, audio code that MUST be rebuilt. Art that should really get finished.
09/03/2006 (7:41 pm)
MS4 coming does make it not worth it to work on some things. I've stopped my rewrite of the material/shader/effect code because I don't want to have to code it again should they have changed something in there or bash my head around figuring out what tiny thing they changed. But there's always other stuff to do, audio code that MUST be rebuilt. Art that should really get finished.

I don't think materials will be rewritten at all. Maybe another variable or two, but nothing serious. Probably the same with shaders.
