When we got the "any day now" and the "this week" warnings a couple weeks ago, I more or less stopped feature programming and started porting over all our DIFs, making normal maps, and designing the shaders. Can't wait to see it all in the new version. Definately looking forward t oit.

I hope MS4 is out soon... a got a fair bit of free time which would be good to fill with doing a new port of the starter.fps pack over to MS4 (if GG hasen't already done it)

GG is a harsh mistress, just starting uni and they are giving me all these lovely distractions!!

Too many distractions. Imagine a scenario where they concentrated on one thing, and shipped an exceptional product, rather than many things that are just 'good'. Why don't they? Business... probably.
I'm not saying that individual thoughts within GG are money oriented,I'm just saying that the perception of GG externally is no longer that of a new sympathetic company towards indies.

You are right. Now they are an old & established sympathetic company towards indies. ;-)

A copany focused on only one thing is doomed to fail. Even if that one thing was just a game engine. The problem is that no matter what since they dont charge Thousands of Dollars for the engine they can not recover the amount and time they put into the product. So they are forced to work on multi-products at the same time to recover the losses.

Even with that said though GG has been doing an amazing job supporting all of there products and each release has added more fixs and new features to play with. Anyone that has been here since the beginning knows that GG has come a very long ways in a short amount of time. I still remember when the final name of Torque was up in the air and up for discussion. Anyone remember Spank Dog ?

I agree that they do a good job of supporting so many products. Alo what they ship is good, it just takes a long time to get there because of so many concurrent projects.

Well I like to think (might just me putting head in the sand but anyways) that the amount of time is mainly due to research, quality control, and marketing. Its not just a matter of they have XX on the plate and only Y people to work on it. The Garage has grown by leaps and bounds and more and more people are being brought onboard all the time.

I forone am glad they dont just focus on one product until it is fully completed. If they did we wouldnt have TXE, Constructor, TSE, and TGB.

They are doing an amazing job from my viewpoint.

YES I'm 99.172% sure MS4 will be very soon lol

gimmi gimmi gimmi... but only if its done :)

@Thomas

All this fuss and clamour for MS 4 to be released is a thing of GG's own making. What else did they expect when they announced that it would be released "this week" on August 14th? GG is, after all, a commercial company that makes profits by selling software tools to its customer base; if it chooses to announce a release date and then fails to hit that date, who's at fault? All they had to do was not announce it...

The arguments about GG not releasing for good reasons (ie, quality control) are fair enough, but I think you cut them a lot of slack that you wouldn't allow to another commercial software company in the same circumstances. I'm not saying this is inappropriate - as a professional software developer myself, I'm all for customers being understanding! - but I also think it's perfectly reasonable for people to voice complaints. Oh, and for what it's worth, I don't regard "research" or "marketing" as being good reasons for delaying a software release.

My view is that GG's marketing people have made a mistake by announcing too early, and I actually think that the community (which is made up of people who have actually paid in advance for this software, let's not forget) is giving them far less of a hard time than they might reasonably expect.

Finally, I'm sure they'd never admit it publicly, but I just bet that Brian and Ben cursed whoever committed them to that deadline with every swearword they know...

@Wayne: can you show me where an official marketing annoucement stated it would be released "this week"?

Hmmm... actually I do remerber Tim Aste saying "this week" here: www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=12681242. But as a customer, I really don't know what Tim Aste's official position in the company is, or if he has anything to do with TSE development. Either way, it could have been a misunderstanding, or that is just some guy on shacknews who called himself timaste. Anyway, I am having plenty of fun ATM with 3.5, and I havent had any problems porting my stuff from milestone to milestone.

That said, I cannot wait for MS4 to be released, but you guys certainly deliver great products when they are done, so make sure it's done ;)

That was a miscommunication, I meant to say "we are announcing" those various products and upcoming events that week, not shipping. I wrote that late at night after doing some last minute work for MS on the Keynote from the hotel lobby. All official communications about MS 4 will be here, on GG.com. I apologize for that, I would of gone back and corrected that after I got my head on straight, but that website doesn't allow for editing of posts unfortunately. Tried to set it straight with various media outlets after that, but in all cases, GG.com is the final say all, so if you ever see anything conflicting on an outside site, even from employees, please take it with a grain of salt if it conflicts what you are hearing here, we always put our licensee's and community first with Torque Technology news, and while we have to play with other sites in order to maintain presence, the real scoop is always here. :)
