High Poly Orc (Don't worry, nothing Kork related ;) )

by Musashi · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 08/31/2006 (8:52 am) · 27 replies

I'm working on an Orc in a scene for a competition, its not the Blizzard Art one before anyone asks, but the image I am doing is based on Blizzard Art. I am not following the Blizzard Art 100% but he will be close.

At the moment this is the 'low detail version', as I will add the detail later. Due to what other things I'm working on, I'm afraid what I consider as 'minor' comments will be ignored, as they will not change much of the model and how it will look rendered in a scene.

Looks more like an Ork from WH or WH40k. Oh wait! Blizzard's an appearence thief!

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to say that it looks pretty good so far.

@Jonathan
Yep, Warcraft was basically Warhammer but with different names so there were no liscensing fees.

lol thanks.

I always wondered the differance between warcraft and War Hammer, at first I thought it was Warhammer, but then I was never a warhammer geek, the geek part came when I got into game dev and 3D modelling =D

Looking really nice! The only I will say is that the chest looks really strange...

Thanks, it is strange, but I'm following a ref image, and well its a strange formation, but most will look better once displacement mapped.

The chest/shoulders/bicep are all strange, and lack proper form.

I suggest studying some anatomy reference (particularily body builders to match the concept) and get a good understanding of how the body is formed, at the moment the model lacks any structure whatsoever

I think that if i looked like that... i would be ok with being an orc.

It doesn't look porportioned like the picture. The body needs to be a little wider and longer. Looking good though.

Thanks for the comments, I will work towards critique, I have begun texturing him, but I had an idea I must try out in photoshop and if it works out I will apply onto the texture, so I won't update. Also while my net was dead I have made a few adjustments, like increasing the detail on the lower half, as for proportions, I'll admit I have terrible perception for that, the only way I get proportion right on drawings is because of the head count thing and where to split the face up, but I will try my best to fix them.

Here is an update, I've begun his texture, and I've start experiments for his scene, starting with a lava effect.

Modelled/UV'd/Textured in Hexagon 2
Lava in Cinema 4D 6
Rendered in Cinema 4D 10 Demo
