Snowcrash

One game I would love to see one day is anything bases on the Novell "Snowcrash", by (if I am not mistaken) Stevenson.

The mixure between avatars and internet would make this not only a game but a true lifestyle.
For those that have read the book it will be easy to imagine the possibilities...

* Design your own Avatar trying to solve the puzzles
* Build your own place on the net
* Etc.

By emphasising on either the puzzle factor or the swordfight factor, you can send the game either way ( RPG or FPS ).

Because this is my first post here, I hope you will spare me a bit, and if someone else has allready posted something similar to this, I hereby appologize.

"Snowcrash" is definitely a good book and would make an excellent backdrop to a game but I'm not sure you are going to get enough gameplay out of it to make the agme fun. Developing an avatar and building your own place on the net sounds like it would be interesting in the short term but would get old fast. Not trying to come down on you, just trying to give you something to think about =) Maybe like I said, use the "Snowcrash" world (futuristic world run by corporations and such) and build a different type of gameplay on top of that?

Snowcrash has been in development as a game various times, I believe. I've even seen some screenshots of it in an old Wired. Of course, I'm sure that iteration of it was cancelled as the graphics were Quake1 quality (which made sense since this was quite a number of years ago).

For one reason or another, though, its never quite been done..Sort of like the Neuromancer movie which was bounced around by like 4 directors, none of which was actually able to get enough momenmtum to get the movie made...

Snowcrash started out as the plotline to a video game being developed by friends of the author. There's a blurb at the back of the book about it somewhere...

Snow Crash would make an excellent basis for a game, indeed. Imagine sequences riding a skateboard and using your 'poon to latch onto cars...nifty. :)

I think by not going with the origional story (just the backdrop), you could get plenty of good gameplay. Just base it on switching back and fourth between the real world and the net (like Hiro), of course the avatar/home building on the net, fighting with swords, guns, etc, and lots of minigames. Would be an excellent RPG.

even just the avatar/chat world in Snow Crash made it a totally inspiring read. we seem to have such a long way still to go with the internet...
