-Fix for orbit camera jitter.:
-thanks, that was very jerky. I also noticed a bit of jerkiness with the flyCam in Editor Mode[F11], is this connected??
-#0001132: Fix for footstep sounds on different materials on Interiors:
-is this fixed for regular terrain too? I could never get multiple sounds to work across the terrain, only the texture in the first Slot position.
...and many more. Thanks from someone who can't just recompile, especially with support for the VS Express05; perhaps I now can! I see a lot of voodoo with the SimObject and saving/writing/finding....and console functions...! These seem like major changes from the way things were accomplished, am I right in thinking this?
Thanks,
Rex

in the meantime, i'll be content to wait and see how everything washes out...
although, that lil bit about the volume light effect in 1.5 has me all excited... can someone
elaborate a lil on exactly what it is...
thx Matt for the news, and for playing the hose on the rampant rumor mill fires :0
ROTFL @ Pat's WHINING placard...
hey, there's whining, and then there's WHINING...
i've seen some creative and masterful WHINING in my time... trust me, nothing in this
thread even approaches what the true practitioners of the art are capable of :)

If you need kickass tech: TSE
If you need compatibility with older hardware: TGE
I also don't understand the complaint about TSE's release now that TSE is nearly finished. If your issue is with the comment "released in mere days" - I posted that not GarageGames, and as I don't work for them that comment should not be taken as absolute fact. Regardless it's only been two weeks.

Anton, regarding TGE/TSE and reasons for both; did you read the posts above? Stephen answered this question. Indie development isn't just about the latest AAA tech - it's also about hardware compatibility. Ask the makers of Orbz, Marble Blast, TubeTwist, Lore, Venture Africa, or even MoM, if they think TGE should be dropped, and specifically what higher hardware requirements would do to the sales of their casual games that don't even use the high-end features. If you need kickass tech: TSE

TGE is far from dead technology. It's a mature, cross-platform engine, with awesome editing support. MoM uses TGE and TLK 1.3, definitely going to look into what porting to 1.5 will bring us...

I dont think Anton is meaning to complain, but stating facts. It was said that TSE would be released in days. Honestly, excusing yourself with that it was just a guess and that you are not a GG Employee is kinda lame. You are not the kind of person who makes announcements and promises that you have nothing to do with.
I am not in a rush and I am looking forward to what TSE will bring. I am sure that the longer you guys keep polishing - the better it will be when we finally get our hands on it. But right now, its not fair to say that TSE is kickass. Not yet.

Having something to do with and having control over are two very different things. I have no control over release dates, so that comment was just that, a best guess. I definitely understand the community's excitement (the release is exciting for us too :), but two weeks is still a relatively short period of time imo.

thanks stephen you have answered my question.
TSE is probably the way to go for me,but I will hold back till
some more info on the 1.5 because I am wondering about
1.5's terrain
TSE can handle absolutely huge terrains if i hear correct

TSE uses atlas terrain, very different to TGE terrain. I would be surprised if something similar was in TGE 1.5 but you never know!

i hope you understand what i mean
sorry for my english

For the Associate and the Employee. i'm little bit lost, because my english is not very good. what i see in the discussion about tge tgb and tge x, why you don't make one unique software they combine all of them and make a price for indie and price for commercial and every years you can renew the licence like power render for the half of the price. insted to work and try to make update for all this soft, i think the best way is combine all this soft in one in work on one soft i hope you understand what i mean
sorry for my english

I'm just as excited as the rest of the community about TSE, Constructor, TGE1.5, TorqueX and everything else. I'm also fully aware that I've got much better things to be getting on with than complaining that a release takes a few days longer than was mentioned on a private forum post. It's remarkable the sense of entitlement that people feel for Torque, and how vociferously they complain when their randomly-accumulated expectations are not met.
I've paid for everything GG has produced that I believe has value for me and my projects. I'll continue to do so as long as they produce high-quality products that make my life as a game developer far easier than it would be without them. I would have paid for updates to TGE a long time ago, and hope that paying for future updates allows GG to continue their work on TGE for a long time to come.

Anyone that thinks a change in release date of a few days or weeks is going to make a difference to development of a game is seriously deluding themselves about what they can achieve. If you're trying to develop against a technology that doesn't exist yet you're never going to complete anything.I'm just as excited as the rest of the community about TSE, Constructor, TGE1.5, TorqueX and everything else. Having just brought TGE and an content pack(not part of the question) within the last two weeks, where do I stand? This may not seem a major for some, but $179.95 USD is alot atm here, worked out to be just under $400.00 NZD with exchange rates the way they are atm.
The first I heard about the 1.5 release was today in the forums, due to a long change over period with ISP's (no internet at home).
Now I understand why some want an fee applied to the upgrade/date, due to the new features and such. But anyone who's just purchased(within 90days max or 30days minium) should have the rights to get an upgrade free.
Can someone from GG provide an answer to this?

The only really nasty thing about this is splitting the forums 1.4 vs 1.5. Also, what happens to content I have created in TDN? Is it going to be pushed to 1.5 side even if I don't upgrade right away? It is not like it is a different engine.
Whatever tthey do, based upon history, GG will try to do it right. That is why I am here and not somewhere else.
YOU CAN"T BUY INTEGRITY!!!
Thanks GG

Charge Torque Owners $40 for the update and raise the price of Torque to $150. It is about time since inflation will probably make it about the same as the original $100. Do something similar for the commercial version. You get reimbursed for your work on the engine, you give us a cost break ($10), and you set the price a bit higer to account for inflation. The $40 is less than the cost of a book or two games and is not like paying for the whole thing again. You could even make the $40 a limited time upgrade that goes up to $50 or $60 later. But i do mind not getting release dates (TGE 1.5, TSE MS4, Constructor etc.)
"Soon, Maybe this week, etc, etc" Just dont work for me.
And getting a response like Pat's "Why do you feel entitled to one? " when i just asked for a release date.
Thats not professional at all... I do this for a living and planning my projects are very importent to me.
The torque engines i have licensed are tools for me not toys.

Alienforce, dude, chill. Really. You don't need to know the next update to plan your project. You've got 1.4. Its a sweet engine. GO CODE. I am. Its fine. Seriously. Relax.

GG has always been really good to its community. Why is there always this arm waving and shouting over any announcement? Don't you people have games to be making or something? Shoo. :pAlienforce, dude, chill. Really. You don't need to know the next update to plan your project. You've got 1.4. Its a sweet engine. GO CODE. I am. Its fine. Seriously. Relax.

Thanks Dave, must of missed that one.
Torque 3D Owner Stephen Zepp
Been staying out of this thread for the most part, but wanted to comment specifically on these questions:
We don't make just one engine because no one's needs are the same.
Need 2D? -- TGB, great for many genres from platformers to shoot'em ups to you name it
Need 3D that's backwards compatible all the way to Windows 98/Voodoo 3 video cards?--TGE is your engine
Need 3D that's cutting edge technology aimed at current bleeding edge and next generation target market, as well as consoles? TSE is your answer.
It's like saying "why don't they make just one socket wrench?"--because many people want to use the right tool for the right job.
