Just joined, been messing around with the RealmWars demo, its fun to be had for sure!

Linux - Fun

Games = Fun

Therefore Linux+Games=More fun!

Makes sense :).

Just wanted to get the forums going...I play Return to Wolfenstein, Creatures 3 and Sid Meiers Alpha Centuari amongst other Linux games.

Very eagerly awaiting NeverWinterNights.

Have a question about DirectX vs OpenGL, which is better really?

Matt

Did not mean to, just wondered if there was any reason that anyone would choose any over the other for a technical reason...Perhaps to avoid a really nasty war the answers could be emailed to me :).

Yikes, should have realised that this argument is akin to KDE vs Gnome question that generates a lot of heat lol.

LOL

God do not open that can of worms here. I hear it enough over at gamedev :/

But since your a linux user the 'better' one for you should be rather obvious don't you think?

But for the sake of stopping flames right now read this article:

Thanks for the article!

Hopefully my next posting won't be a potential flmae thrower lol.

Well guess here goes...

Even with Loki Games gone, in my humble opinion Linux gaming is actually looking a bit more healthy (sure would have been nice for them to be around, but lets face it, old ports suck. Oh its looking more healthy not because they are gone lol, but people like youand a few others are dipping their toes into the realm of the Penguin).

One if the big things that Opengl 2.0 will solve is the fact that you have to use extension for advanced features where as in Direct X you write it for direct X and it works on all cards...of course the only reason that works is microsoft's constant updating. If you care about portability at all you have to choice opengl.

Plus the fact that DirectX is Windows Only and OpenGL is portable to other OSs such as Linux, Mac OS X, etc..
