1.1.1 Mac version?

by Vern Jensen · in Torque Game Builder · 08/12/2006 (4:38 pm) · 36 replies

I'm really confused. It says 1.1.1 is out, but when I go to My Account and download, it says it's downloading 1.1.0. Is the Mac version up-to-date? If not, why hasn't anyone at GarageGames mentioned this?

Hmmmm...so why is it still showing up as 1.1.0 on gg's site if download.com has 1.1.1? and would it be any good to me after 30 days?

i guess we just have to keep this thread alive and hope that sometimes,'the squeeky wheel gets the oil.'

i don't mean to sound lazy, irresponsible or whiny, but i don't particularly feel it should be expected of me to compile a linux source so that i 'might' have a usable copy of the latest update. i'm accustomed to being treated like a second class citizen when it comes to windoze, but third in line to linux, the gimme it for free community.(no offense intended...just how i see it, so don't flame please) if it were as simple as compiling the linux source then why hasn't the 'mac guy' already done that? it must involve more than that i assume. but i don't know for sure, because i'm not smart enough to muddle through c++, compiling and all the headaches that ensue. at least not yet, i'm learning. but in the mean time that's why i'm considering this engine and not c4 or other code jockey engines. it will take me time to learn c++, but i still want to experiment and make games while i'm learning. and this engine is advertised as a cross platform, out of the box binary, learn some scripting and make a game, engine.

as i said, i'm not complaining, tgb seems to have incredible potential. i'm already roughing out plans for games i used to play with my best friend in highschool, just as concepts, to help me learn game development; anyone remember playing hockey with three pennies?...dated myself there. and i think it is the best tool for 2d development on the market, period! that's why i'm waxing lengthy in this post. i'm sure none of us mac'ers want to appear angry or impatient. but i also think we don't want to, nor as paying customers should we have to hear, the 'standard' gg answer to not meeting a posted milestone or ready date, which usually is...'if you don't have it...make it' well, if i could 'make' this tool, i wouldn't need to buy it.

i know there are plenty of smart people out there saying to themselves, 'there's another dummy who can't do it on his own.' well, i'd have to say guilty as charged. i can't, but i don't think i'm alone. and i'm not bitter, i just hope that gg see's this as constructive criticism and works to either better inform us of when to expect product updates or get more mac guys, seriously i wish i could learn quickly whatever it takes to get this stuff done, or some other better solution that i just don't have the foresight to predict.

we want in on the fun too...

an equally satisfied and strained customer. you know that word. it means the guys and galls who buy what you sell.

Well put. I've also been wondering if I should just download the linux version and try compiling it. But if its really that easy then why hasn't it already been done?

The natives are growing restless...

By the way,

if the 'mac guy' is reading these posts, could you please suggest some reading/instructional material for me. i'm determined to learn this mac development jazz. i already have;

'step into xcode' - fritz anderson
'the mac xcode 2 book' - micheal and dennis cohen
'cocoa programming for mac osx' - aaron hillegass

i figure since you are already 'doing' it you can point me down the right road to getting it done. i realize yours must be a life of some frustration so i would like you to know that i, and i hope i can speak for the mac community here, appreciate all your hard work and peerless effort in trying to satisfy this motely crew of mac'ers. i certainly hope gg is paying you enough.

and i hope to someday myself help bring parity to gaming and art software for the mac community of which i am an avid member.

here's to lightwave 9 universal binary!!! (just thought i'd through in that bit of thrilling news...)

The first two books that you have on your list should get you up and running with XCode. Ivort Horton's Beginning C++ should get you going in the C++ realm. It is not Mac native, but it is also not Windows centric, though most of the schools that use it are. Michael Prata's C++ Primer Plus is another excellent (and heavy) book to learn from.

Guys, the issue was this:

The build has been ready for about a week and a half, now.
The trouble was: There was some miscommunication, and I did not adequately notify our web guys that 1.1.1 was ready to go. The guy who put the binary up on download.com knew, and so uploaded the correct version.

This wasn't a matter of porting probs, or bugs or difficulties, it was just some silly miscommunication.
Sorry about that, everyone.

Build should be up asap.

Oh, and yeah... I do in fact have a lot on my plate. I'll probably be putting out a call for a Mac intern very soon.

Three corny, glaze eyed inducing cheers for paul...........!!!

i hope you get the intern ( listening gg... ). any recommendations for my list of learning?
i'm trying to move up from grovelling mac grunt worm to, at least, over confident idiot mac savant by years end. i may even ascend to the hallowed ranks of someone's coffee whore...i mean mac intern, myself someday. i can always dream.

thanks again, paul...and my new mbp 17"/2g ram thanx you...wooot, wooot

I'm getting a link to a 2.2MB file that says "getTorrqueGameBuilder.app.tgz". My Mac isn't connected to the Web, I download to my PC and copy it over.

Is this a patch to 1.1.0, or am I going to have to figure out how to make my current ISP Mac-friendly?

All assistance appreciated.

@Ed: Where, exactly, did you download that file from?

I go to the "My Account" page, click on "download" next to my "Torque Game Builder INDIE license" entry in my purchased list, click on the "view all operating systems" thing on the left-hand side of the page, then click on the link under "Macintosh Downloads" - that's what I get. This is the binary version, not the PRO version, by the way.

I tried refreshing the page as well, same results.

Hope that helps! :-)

Where is the Mac 1.1.1 version? I still see the "getTorqueGameBuilder.app.tgz" link in the My Account section when I go to download it.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

It's the right version for me for osx. 1.1.1 Edit: I've got the pro version btw.

@Ed:

.tgz = Tar, Gzip.

Double click its icon to decompress it. You'll be left with the .app you can run.

(I have the pro version, too)
