1.1.1 Mac version?

by Vern Jensen · in Torque Game Builder · 08/12/2006 (4:38 pm) · 36 replies

I'm really confused. It says 1.1.1 is out, but when I go to My Account and download, it says it's downloading 1.1.0. Is the Mac version up-to-date? If not, why hasn't anyone at GarageGames mentioned this?

Download the linux version. It will compile just fine on xcode 2.1.

David, I'm a little confused. Are you saying that the Linux version of 1.1.1 contains updated platformMacCarb files? Or, are you saying that none of those 31 Mac-specific source files have changes in them?

Justin stated this in his .plan detailing the release of 1.1.1:

"Our Mac update is slightly delayed as our Mac guru is out at WWDC currently and was not in the office to get a build together. We will have that for all of you Mac guys very soon, I promise!"

Thanks Dennis, good to know. I just wish those notes wouldn't be hidden in .plan files, but made part of the public press releases, so we know what's going on more easily.

It looks like as I feared, the linux version does not function completely flawless. If you go into fullscreen after compiling with Xcode, TGB will load up, but none of the dropdown menu's will actually succeed in pulling down. And since you can't get the menu's down... well you can't turn off fullscreen mode!

I'm searching for some sort of config file to edit. Otherwise I'll have to trash this build and try again.

Any news about the awaited Mac TGB 1.1.1?

Thanks in advance.

Could we get an official update on this? Apple's WWDC ended a while ago.

I'm sure that the one Mac guy at GarageGames is working as hard as he can. Projected release dates are probably unrealistic - unanticipated issues can make any schedule go wonky. To have one guy handle all the Mac-specific stuff is heroic as far as I'm concerned.

Perhaps GarageGames should adopt a policy of concurrent releases for the three platforms. I'm sure that Windows folks, who are used to getting the latest goodies before anybody else, might not be thrilled; but it would show GG's dedication to being multi-platform. GG's dedication to the Mac platform was why I signed on.

Still nothing?
I just cannot get the linux version to compile on my Mac. And I shouldn't need...

Wow. I think the "Mac Guy" should be allowed to train one of the other developers so he can get some help. It sure is taking a while for this release... I'll try to be patient.

Wish i was a mac developer...apparently...they are in demand...

Or at least demanding :)
I was able to get a build that at least "works for now" using the Linux source of 1.1.1 (built using Xcode). I'm not sure what all may be broken in there as I'm just now getting used to my mac. For example, some of the common hot keys for toggling the GUI editor and such aren't working... don't know it's just me or what. It would be nice to have an officially supported release though so I could feel more comfortable about posting issues.

Umm.... happened to run across this just now on download.com

www.download.com/Torque-Game-Builder/3000-2300_4-10576806.html?tag=new

1.1.1 for osx... it's the "free trial"...

How odd. I think I'll need to add a review :)

Wow, someone needs to inform Anton as clearly a rant is needed here.
You mac guys might have to just do what us linux guys do. Fix the platform specific problems and build your own executable from source.

Ah... so it's not just me. I was trying the mini-platformer tutorial, and noticed that the tilemap editor has apparently been improved significantly in the 1.1.1 version. I hope us Mac guys will have the upgrade soon.

To The Mac Guy, if you happen to read this post:
By the way... one issue I have now with the tile editor (that may or may not have been fixed for the Mac 1.1.1): I can't erase tiles. Because I can't right-click. Any chance TGB can do what Diablo II did, and make Apple Button + Mouse Button = Right Click?

(I do realize I can always buy a two-button mouse for my Mac. For now, I just undo or not care if I misplace a tile, since I'm still in the learning stage.)
