Raise the resolution of the pic. The higher the resolution, the better the quality. I reccomend increasing its size times 3, then adding the smooth details you want.

On thing I do for roads is to use 2 textures. the first you lay down is a "road edge" texture, something like patchy grass. Use a featured brush and paint it over a wider area than you are planning for the road. Then the road texture itself goes on top of that. You get a nice road -> road edge -> normal terrain blend that minimizes the effects of what you're seeing in your screenshot.

Hey I never thought of doing that for roads. But I have a question for you. How do you make turns in the road?

In Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc., there are textures for road turns.

If you want a road that has lines or anything which suggest direction, you're going to need to make the roads as dif shapes.

"Window/Terrain Texture Painter". After the dialog box appears, select an empty block to add a texture to (usually directly underneath the selected block). Select "Action" from the main menu, then select "Paint Material". Select "Brush" in the main menu, select "Box", then select "Hard". Select a size, then apply the texture by clicking on the area where you want the road. That's it!

I use road textures that I created in "Adobe PhotoShop 2". I make the texture I desire, then I build a .dif file of it. Usually, I use these types of models for flat landscapes such as a downtown area. To travel up hills, I was informed that the "Terrain Texture Painter" in Torque is the way to go. Simply load your textures into the "Torque/SDK/example/GameOne/data/terrains" directory. Then use the in-game tools,"Window/Terrain Texture Painter". That's it!
