Play on the Internet

by CodingChris · in Torque Game Engine · 07/25/2006 (6:28 am) · 19 replies

When I want to play over Internet in starter.fps, I seach a server and join. But how to create this server. When I click "Host Multiplayer" in TGE 1.4, the other gamers can't find my new server! Maybe I'm to silly for this, but how to create an internetserver. Thanks a lot. I hope you can help me.

That's how you do it. If they can't find your server it's probably a firewall/router issue.

Its not, I've checked. No firewall is running.

What about your router? Does it correctly send incoming packets to your PC on the local network?

Yes it does. Torque works fine with LAN.

Maybe is this a torque bug??? Cause its a clean Torque Installation and it doesn't work, its scary.

It's not a Torque bug, I've been testing multiplayer with a few friends across the internet for the past few nights and haven't had any problems.

But have I problems with my friends and all the others? Its a clean torque installation and my firewall isn't running.

Open the correct ports on your router.

What ports?

Either 28000 or 28002

28000, and others, not sure exactly which but it shouldn't be hard to figure out.

This is irrelevant. In a LAN all computers are connected to the router internally, not externally.

I can't find the section where to open the ports. Can someone host a internet server with the starter.racing/starter.fps, so that I can check, if it works.

The starter.racing does Not work across the net.
Starter.fps does. Look in your firewall preferences and open ports 28000 and 28002 and it will work for you.

On your router. Since Linksys is a popular router brand, here's a link on how to do it: www.dslwebserver.com/main/sbs-linksys-port-forwarding.html. Of course, if you don't have a Linksys router this link means nothing. Search Google for "port forwarding xx" where xx is your router brand.

I know for a fact that people can join your "outta-box" TGE hosted games

I remember opening it up and playing with terrain the first few days
and while i was "thinking I was alone and learning" 2 different people
joined my hosted session
I then sat down and looked for ways to prevent this
