Torque Shader Engine being pirated

Okay call me nuts people,
I just saw TSE on a bittorent pirate site, this honestly made me sick. I mean I am just as much of a pirate of the next guy, but I shelled out my $100 for TGE. I cant imagine how someone could pirate this, so many people worked so hard to make this what it is and they are by FAR not over charging.
Just wondering what everyone else thinks

First time I see my game on Bittorent I am throwing a party, I dont whine when my stuff is pirated. But when something like torque is created to help people and people abuse that help I get upset.

But I don't just feel for Garage Games, what about all the guys here using pirated versions of 3DS Max, Maya, and the list goes on.

Yeah I feel for Garage Games as whether you like their products or not they are all easily affordable. It's unfortunate that it's so easy to obtain their products illegally, though it's not like you can release a product with a pirated copy. But I don't just feel for Garage Games, what about all the guys here using pirated versions of 3DS Max, Maya, and the list goes on.

Me being as much of a pirate as anyone means I have some Mp3's and a couple of movies, but anything I make money off of I have paid for.

So those that made those music numbers and movies can starve for all you care, but when its a dev tool you get upset. Get a grip -stealing is stealing!

In Canada (where I am from) we can legally download music. We pay an extra tax on blank media that goes to those who deserve it. ;)

Surely when you paid several thousands of dollars for Max you could have forked over another 20 for Tool's CD?
There is no excuse for pirating, especially when there is an opensource alternative for pretty much everything. Blender, Openoffice, even Irrlicht or Ogre or CrystalSpace.

But also think of this, at least they don't get support, or documentation (at least new stuff), or access to the community, or access to changes. I'd much rather spend the little $$$ required for these resources because it's just as important as the source and engine itself if not more.

I noticed this too, it's disheartening to those and me who spend their well earned money on a product while everyone else uses it.But also think of this, at least they don't get support, or documentation (at least new stuff), or access to the community, or access to changes. I don't want to get into a big debate here but.. Downloading a music track online is really only hurting the big corporations that sell them (unless of course it is a local/obscure band in which case you should buy their work). Do you really think JayZ or Eminem is going to starve if you download their album? Musicians and their record labels make an obscene amount of money as it. Also, because what you are downloading is a copy of the data, nothing was actually stolen from anyone.

I am guilty of searching for a pirated version of Torque before I bought it. The major deciding factor was access to resources on the website, combined with the community interaction. Lets face it, if you are smart enough to use Torque without any help from a community, then you should probably be writing your own engine.

Ya... Brittney Spears and Eminem have a hard poverty stricken life cause all the rampant piracy.. lol, please. I totally agree with the original poster.

At what point will Garage Games be considered successful enough for us to stop paying for their products? Once they get a game on one of the NextGen consoles? Hmm. Looks like they've already accomplished that. Maybe when a GG developed game sells 20 million copies it will be ok to rip off their stuff. If not that, what's the criteria for legitimizing piracy of a particluar product or producer?
By the way, Britney may have her millions, but what about the sound guy who loves what he does, is proud of his credits but still has to put his kids through college? Most major projects are the work of many talented and hard-working people with their own dreams and financial realities. Philosophical pirates tend to ignore that fact.
In the end, it's better to pay the asking price or find a legitimate alternative -- rationalizing piracy takes way too much effort.

So, basically, when an artist or creator hits the big time and makes lots of money, we no longer need to pay to enjoy the fruit of their labor. I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but I really want to know . . .At what point will Garage Games be considered successful enough for us to stop paying for their products? Well, it's unlikely anyone will get anywhere with a pirated TGE. The community plays a major role, and was one of the reasons I chose TGE over other packages.

TGE 1.4 can be found on (edit) with 6 seeders and was uploaded on 5/25

The TSE Engine can be found on (edit). Its upload date is 11/17 and there are currently no seeders. While it says it was downloaded roughly 800-900 times I'm not sure I would worry about it to much since its over 6 months old.TGE 1.4 can be found on (edit) with 6 seeders and was uploaded on 5/25

They wouldn't get the documentation or anything, plus older versions so its basically useless to them.

I am so sick and tired of petty theft being called piracy!! I am a pirate! I didn't spend 8 years apprenticing on deck so just anyone who steal cds can be called pirate! Do you rape, murder, pillage, plunder, bury treasure, have drunken sex dreams about dolphins?!?! Well... DO YOU?!?!?!? Then you can't call yourself a damn pirate, CAN YOU!!Fuckin pick pockets think they are the shit. Bunch of little shits.

During my apprenticeship (pun!) I was given the plank becauase I didn't meet my daily plundering quota... Captain Shooterpede was a harsh man, but good in every right. I'll miss that parrot dearly...
