Crashes on Mac OS 10.4.7 Before It Gets to Login Screen

by Mikiah Kring · in ThinkTanks · 07/10/2006 (12:10 pm) · 6 replies

Using Mac OS 10.4.7.
Opening ThinkTanks 1.1, which I just downloaded. (Bought 'key' for the game one year ago.)
Before ThinkTanks reaches login screen, it crashes.
Sometimes, when it successfully gets to login screen, it crashes when curser gets near the 'Enter' button.

Please advise!

(What other info would be helpful?)

As soon as I upgraded to OS X 10.4.7 I experienced the same crash. It was working fine before that. It is now unusable.

Try the fix that was posted in the other forum. It worked for me.

Thank you. Had already tried that fix. Tried it again. Still, ThinkTank crashes.

One peculiarity:

On the ThinkTank login screen (where you type your 'key'), crashes happen when I move the cursor near the 'Accept' button. The cursor freezes just outside the button's border, and a couple moments later ThinkTanks crashes. (This happens when I move the cursor arrow near the 'Exit' button, also.)

Mikiah,

That's the same problem that is caused by the OpenAL sound issue. If you tried all the steps in the fix I posted in the other thread, follow the link to planetthinktanks that is also in there. When you mouse over the "Accept" button, a click sound tries to play, and crash.

As far as what effect the "fix" has on the OS or other programs, I haven't seen any myself, but some people aren't comfortable with the fix. I have TT installed on a newer machine, and I'm not going to mess with 10.4.7 on that one until there is a real fix to the OpenAL issue.

Thanks.

So, I'll (1) wait until a real fix to the OpenAL issue on 10.4.7, and meanwhile (2) find my pre-10.4.7 iBook (G3 500Mhz) for 'Accepting' ThinkTanks. Will not at this time try to fix OpenAL on 10.4.7 again.

Does that sound about right?

I have the same problem with 10.4.7. I'm going to see if I can go back one update version if the "fix" won't work.
