Animation Question

Hi all,
I'm trying to get my player to do two animations in sequence - ie when the first animation ends, the second one begins.
Is there a way of establishing when an animation has finished? I have looked into two methods so far:
The first was to use schedule() - I know how long my animation is so I should be able to schedule the 2nd one to start after 1 second, right? That didn't appear to work.
The second was using triggers. I use Lightwave and have added a trigger to the first animation. How do I catch that trigger in script and start the 2nd animation?
Thanks,
Mike
