Changing Torque icon vs EULA

by Pavel Tovarys · in Torque Game Builder · 05/31/2006 (2:36 am) · 6 replies

A small but important nondeveloping question:

You can find in EULA "Licensee may not: ... remove or alter any trademark, logo, copyright ..."
Can I change the engine icon? I have not found any permission for it.

Thanks,
Pavel T..

I'm sure it would be allowable to use a custom icon in the Start menu shortcut to your game. You don't have to modify the EXE to use an game specific icon in that case.

I wonder if this affects the commercial license too... was hoping to use my own EXE icon.

I think you're safe. If not, I just spent way too much time making sure my icon appeared correctly. =)

Unrelated to the EULA but in case anyone didn't realize: there are utilities for MS Windows to change the icon of an .exe with compiling [edit: that's NO compiling needed]. On Mac OS X the icon is just stored in the .app bundle.

I cant see n e viable reason to not change icon, its silly to think gg would expect u to sell a game with a generic icon

Your finished game should use a new .EXE icon. We will make sure the EULA allows for this. But, we don't want to end up spending half of our EULA explaining this very simple clause.
