TSE for Linux

I keep reading people asking when Linux version will be done...

So for all of you, please read this thread:
www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=18839

Quote:Robert Blanchet Jr. Employee:
I suspect the OpenGL push wont happen until Brian is confident he has squashed all the bugs related to DirectX and Shaders.

Quote:Ben Garney Employee :
I think we're shooting for feature completion under windows before we start pushing hard for ports to other platforms. That way it's only 1/3 the code if we have to rewrite something.

Quote:Brian Ramage Employee :
We're still planning on integrating OpenGL, but not until after 1.0 release.

All seems quit fair enough to me :)

Lol, one problem with those quotes, the employees don't seem too sure on anything... :P
But thanks for writting that up, clears a bit of air.

With that said, it should be possible to get a dedicated server running, no?

Anyone attempted to create a Makefile for that?

Tell me what needs to be compiled and what needs to be left out and I'll giv it a shot.
I havn't had enough of a look at tse to know if the dx9 render stuff is really needed to initialize the engine.

Aye, for me I only really care about dedicated server on Linux so as long as that compiles on Linux that's fine ;) Windows and server simply shouldn't ever be allowed in the same sentence ;)

If you look at the old TGE Makefile distributed with TSE M2 (we havent upgraded yet, so it might have changed), there is a make target for a ded server already in there. But the Makefile hasnt been upgraded at all to TSE (from a quick glance)

Its located in the engine/ dir - Makefile and targets.torque.mk

Might give you a clue! Personally I would sponser you with a book or DVD or similar from Amazon (lets say up to $50) if you can take the time and make it work)

Fuck, ok, done, I'm on it!
One thing though, which compiler/libs would you suggest?
I have KateOS, Ubuntu and Slackware 10.something, Xandros 3 too.
Maybe I'll just install them all and use them as a base for testing, see what build compatibility is like, maybe a few makefiles.

Gimme a week or so.

Might be wise to take the targets.torque.mk file the latest TGE in cvs, that might be closer seeing that Bran mentioned that TGE 1.4 has been integrated into TSE.

Also consider the mk dir, seeing their are changes for compilation using GCC4 etc..

The date on the latest one is 2004....
Might just have to do a bit manual hard slogging, hopefully it won't take too much, and it looks like I won't have too much time anymore because I'll be starting a new job soon (Sheetmetal/Heavy Fabrication/Welding).
I'll try and get a good start on it today.

Please check again, the latest TGE NOT TSE should be 2006. Use that one, would need minor mods for TSE specifics

Ahh, *click*, thought you meant the tse version.

I'm eagerly awaiting progress on the OGL and Linux front.

I don't know anything about Macs but as Mac OSX has a BSD core, does that mean the Linux version will help produce a Mac version too?

Luke, any news regarding that makefile stuff?

Would be interesting to see if wine / cedega's directx support is fully featured enough to run TSE, or perhaps even compile it (using winelib, etc).

Josef, a little, I'm at a it of a stumbling point in real-life.
Which is, I've moved to a new town, and discovered that the steelwork job I was supposed to have is non existant.
So, no time for anything except job hunting....

I tried very quickly to run the demo with Cedega - no dice.

Tried changing all the obvious settings but nothing worked.

Has anyone else got anywhere with Cedega?

Cedega would be the worst... Those guys havn't got a full on dx9 implementation yet, only what the most popular games need.
