Torque & Trees & Large Scale

Sort of a cross post, but I am starting up a project at Oregon State University to do large scale forest data visualization. Anyone else doing anything similar?

See this thread for a post I did about it.

You should talk with Ben Garney at Garage Games in Eugene, he is the Lead on TGE devlopment and one of his side projects was developing a Forest Pack

Some pics of a quick "hack" render I did. It's just the TSE demo with new terrain & a large large number of trees done as sprites/billboards using the fxFoliageReplicator. The trees are suprisingly good looking, as long as you don't get too close, fly overhead or expect them to be solid.

There are approximately 59000 foliage items in the mission file with render distances (for some groups) out to 5000 or so. FPS around 30+. I'm pretty impressed that it doesn't just fall flat on it's face with that kind of load.
