MS4 within a few months

by Nick Daum · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 03/29/2006 (7:12 pm) · 119 replies

I am not sure if this has been said elsewhere but Tim Aste just posted "As it stands, all the stuff you listed is actually done, and we still have a few months until Milestone 4 will be out."

So I guess MS3 will be a quick one:)

I think the main point here is that TSE still being in EA is not stopping you from making your game.

>> seeing as you're a "Novice Gamer" I wouldn't let it get to you

Hahahaha. Do you think ill ever waste my time to update that profile where you read "novice gamer" or "slef apointed god of game coding" Dont make me laugh. I read some of your posts and I had a better oppinion on your inteligence. I still have and consider that you just had a slip :P

You could also realize that the way I present my points is with intent :P I have my motivations, or at least I get a good laugh to see how ppl bite the dust :P

@Jorgen Evelon

The day when laws for stupidity, you fat slobe, will be enforcable, will be a sad day for your parents because theyll have to donate you to a Zoo. Ppl with IQ of 70 like you wont have a place in society. Not even as pets.
Thank you for repsonding to my post and allowing me to have a good laugh.

@Jaff

Very good points, Jaff. I do agre with you. Totaly 100%. But this doesnt change the fact GG is doing anything
but not deliver TSE for years. They would code a new GDC demo, bring TGE to version 3.14 , but not deliver TSE. Furthermore, their PR sucks. And frankly I dont care about what they work , I only care that it takes moths to those ppl to commit 5 lines fo code in CVS of TSE.

TSE delays are already publicly notorius all over the internet , and more and more ppl have a problem with its timeframe, and the way GG respects its customers.

They are even so arogant that they would post new about TSE on other forums then let us know, the ppl who gived them our money, whats going on. That's what I call shooting yourself in the leg from a PR point of view. So, at this kind of behaviour, why should I cut some slack? From noveber till today I seen no CVS commit except some bounties by some ppl. They would not even give you the more stabe MBU relase, because they dont care about *YOU* the customer , at all.

Well then Dan, good luck with whatever future might hold for you.
It seems somehow you've earned it.

It is clear from the above posts that some "facts" are being invented to push forward the individual's argument, so here's a few cold hard facts you can verify from publically available posts on this site if you cared enough to dig:

Legions, although now a tech demo, was at least considered as a potential game that's a spirtual successor to the Tribes series. It makes infinately more sense to talk to tribes players on this subject then it does the GG community. The information mentioned that was posted on TribalWar is a direct result of that.

GG moved over to an internal subversion repository a year or so ago for development on all products. This relegated CVS to nothing more then a convenient delivery mechanism. Commits on the CVS repository are not at all an indication of development, they are more comparable to the downloadable installers available for other products.

TSE, despite being EA, is stable enough to ship games. It has done so already, and there are more TSE based games in development.

MBU was only fairly recently finished and shipped. It is fairly obvious that there are licensing issues on large parts of that codebase which makes merging it more complex then it otherwise would be.

Preparation for GDC does not happen overnight. We are 3 months into 2006, and you can bet most of that and the latter part of last year was spent preparing for GDC. It has already been mentioned in the IOTD that Legions will become the new TSE starter.fps, but there are some technical challenges to overcome before that's possible.

Yes the results are known. more than a year spent in Milestone 3. If you look at that plan, youll see milestone 3 is the simpliest of all milestones, and it takes them so much time.

>> GG moved over to an internal subversion repository a year or so ago for development on all products.

Of course, that extermly conveneint for them , since they dont have to deliver anymore. They care so little about the licecees so you they dont even care to sycnh to thir current CVS once MBU was done.

The fact reamisn, MBU and TGE 1.4 are out of way for monhts, and they did not even made a commit in public CVS. You say that there are licensing issues, well in this case they screwed you , the TSE licensee once again.

Whatever reasons you or GG inevent, the fact reamains. FACT is that there is no TSE for you :P Only for GG so far. And you dont deserver to get anything, not even some fixes they did for MBU, which hopefully fix up screwed things like fucked up batching, and the results, very low FPS oin some cases. Even with a 7800 GTX :P

>>It has already been mentioned in the IOTD that Legions will become the new TSE starter.fps, but there are >>some technical challenges to overcome before that's possible.

Look, Im not interested to dig about "facts". Fact is , there is no CVS commit by months. MBU and TGE 1.4 are out of the way by months. You and other licensee are "inventing" that with TGE 1.4 and MBU out of the way things are starting to "roll". Well, they are already out of the way by months. But this doesnt care, because GG will invent other things to not work on TSE.

Like, rewrite it for the publich branch of TSE ? Who cares anyway ? I had a very good laught today seeing some posts about TSE , the 2016 engine, and that 3D Realsms licensed TSE for Duke Nukem forever.

Lack of any progress in public CVS of TSE becomes more and more subject of laugh on internet. In 2006 a lot of ppl started laughing at GG.

TGE might be a mature peice of code, TSE was just something GG used to get money whithout delivering

@Dan: Feel free to comment on TSE all you wish--while digging through your posts for actual content is rather painful, you do occasionally bring up points that reflect important observations to the TSE team, as well as GarageGames as a company. I do suggest that you focus on direct and constructive feedback and suggestions since your posts are on the borderline of being abusive to everyone (and therefore subject to moderation), but we are intentionally cutting you some slack in regards to your comments regarding GG and TSE.

However, you are hereby warned: cease and desist from your attacks on community members. If you fail to do so, your posting priviledges will be removed.

@Stephen

Ok, I agree with you that constructive criticsim is better. Im prefectly aware of the tone of my posts. Please note that I was not the first one to use words as "moron" or "law against stupidity". If you want to be a pefectly balanced moderator, warn those ppl do refrain using such words. It is important for a moderator to be balanced , and see what exactly caused virulent attacks against other posters.

>>however, you are hereby warned: cease and desist from your attacks on community members. If you fail to >>do so, your posting priviledges will be removed.

Warning me is kinda futile. I never responded well to warnings. The internet is a big place. If I cant post here, I always can post on 1001 other places, where devlopers gather and talk about 3D engines and game devlopment in general. Most of those places will never moderate me, if I choose to post there. This is a fact. I will be happy to oblige you with this, but again: when somone use words as "moron" and "laws against stupidity" refering to some categories of TSe lincesees will only expose itself on extremly virulent attacks from my part, beeit here or on other forums.

You guys from GG have sometimes an atitude which is almost as offensive to anyone as mine. Should I remaind you the content of a thread where C4 engine was bashed by GG employees and its author accused of thiefing , and borderline language from GG staff ? You guys aint better than me.

You do what you have to do. It is of very less importance and consequence to me if you choose to remove my account.

Ahh yes, and another thing. You should thank me for the open mind and corectness I keep when talking with other ppl about TGE. There are ppl which left TGE comunity and say very bad things about Torque, things which are not representing the truth about the inner working of TGE and its nice , in my oppinion design. I always corrected those ppl and tried not to bash a engine which is pretty nice and very usable. I do not make this
because im a big fun of GG, but because its the right thing to do, and because what those ppl spread missinformation.

This is something I did for you guys in exchange for the slack you cut me for what I said.

Generally, my problem is with TSE development cycles , and the way GG choose to manage it's PR with its licensses.

@Dan Partelly

I want to see a clamation version of this thread!! That would be AWESOME!! Like celebraty deathmatch!! YEAH!!!!! Only it's loser slap match!! Wooo Hooo!!!

In the one corner still trying to tie the knot on his boxing shorts it's LOSER #1!!!!

In the other corner fighting with his coach over his PSP it's LOSER #2!!!

[bell rings]

LOSER #1 is still trying to get his boxer knot to work.

LOSER #2 is swearing at his coach for taking away his toy.

LOSER #1's coach shoves him out into the ring.

LOSER #1's boxers fall off.

LOSER #2 gets so upset over having his toy taken away that he starts to cry.

LOSER #1 pulls his boxers back up while the crowd goes wild with laughter.

LOSER #2 flops to the ground in a fit.

LOSER #1 starts toward LOSER #2.

LOSER #1's boxers fall again and he trips and falls.

The crowd goes wild with laughter.

Someone mercifully throws a white towel into the ring.

The ref calls a draw.

Stay tuned for next week's LOSER TAG TEAM SLAPMATCH: whiny bitches vs smart ass bitches!!

The crowd goes wild with laughter.

What's the point of that bit of retarded humor there? When you get into a forum fight, it's just embarassing and it's goes no where. So, why waste your time and your opinions. At least keep your dignity. This community has a very low dickhead count. Please help to keep it low. Don't contribute to it. No matter how tempting it is when you are angery. And as Stephen put it... GG isn't invalidating your opinions... but you will if you join the dickhead group.

I take Dextrostat. And no, I didn't forget. See, that's what I'm talking about. You think it's funny and makes your point to say that I might be one of those people with ADD? I am. And you just look like a dickhead now. Now apologize.

That wiley Tom "Hampton" always bringing up his pesky facts to people who try to redfine the word "fact" by exemplifying anything but. At least he understands the definition!

I, however, am in no such position to bring up facts or clear up misinformation. See, it's because I like dinosaurs. And I think that GG should make a Turok-based normal-mapped dino demo to show off Milestone 4. You could run around a big planet like in Starfox Adventures, have a jetpack like DinoCrisis 3 (but with better control), and a tactical nuke. But none of the jumping puzzles from Turok 1 or the flying missions in Evolution. It would be really cool if they made it so that you could ride dinosaurs (perhaps even with turrets on their saddles!). Maybe they could even pick up a hot license like Carnosaur and make a whole series!

The future is lined with raptor claws and TSE is gonna rip it up!
