Memory could not be written when trying Atlas compile

Whenever I try to compile an Atlas terrain, it eventually crashes with a 'memory could not be "written"' error message. It does not happen in a debug version. (It crashes in debug, just never says why)
I am using a P2.2Ghz with 2GB Ram, ATI Radeon x300/x550 128MB Ram.
Another note is that the terrains sometimes have texture problems, in the starter.fps port, and the offical TSE demo for example. I haven't had any problems running the water_level_demo, looks great and runs fast.
I have tried upgrading my video drivers, this doesn't seem to affect anything. I'm kind of at a loss for debugging this issue, but I definitely would like to!
Edit:
This only happens when trying to compile maps that are 2048x2048 or greater. Anything less works fine.
