If Buying TES, Should I NOT Buy Lighting Kit?

Is it just unnecessary in that case, or will it still offer some benefits to me?

Do you mean TSE? Go to Developer ---> TSE at the top of this site...

If you read #4 you'll notice that you may need to wait a little for TSE to support lighting and such.

Hey! :) Ok, thanks!
But - when it's complete, will I not need the Lighting Kit?

Probably won't need it, more for TGE users anyway I think..

I'm pretty sure there will be a TSE version of the TLK. Yes, TSE will have a dynamic lightning/shadowing solution, but there'll still be plently of things for a lighting pack to on improve/enhance.

Its hard to say how much a Lighting Kit will be needed for TSE until the lighting end of TSE is done. Its entirely possible that it wont be needed at all except for the TLK lighting editor which is nice to use (provided TGE doesn't provide its own)

But there are no current benefits to owning the TLK if you dont plan on using it with TGE. I also dont recall any actual solid statements that a TLK owner would get the potential TSE version for free also.

If Kabus reads this, I'm sure he can say one way or another on that part at least :)

@Joshua
TSE is for windows only as of now, its still in early stages. the DX and OGL renderers are seperate entities, unlike TGE where there is only true OGL. so TSE will support Mac OSX and Linux later when the OGL rendering portion is complete. if you are working on multi-platforms now, it would be worth buying the TSE EA license as when its completed will be more expensive.

There is, both in posts and plans. However, Stephen Zepp recently hinted that it might have changed. Anyway, I'm sure that it will be worth it.

It'll probably just be for the relaitme light editor then anything else. Maybe projected lights that produce coloured shadows on translucent surfaces, etc.

Is TSE being programmed with custom interfaces to handle porting with minimal revisions?

Hi guys,

Sorry I didn't see this sooner - I check the Torque Lighting Kit forums far more often, so thats a good place for TLK questions. :)

There a a ton of threads, plans and even an interview with GarageGames where I've said that you won't have to pay for an upgrade to use TLK with TSE. ;)

The Torque Lighting Kit was designed from the ground up to make creating awesome looking games faster and easier than ever. TLK is all about the tools and workflow that give your team better results in less time.

Here at Synapse Gaming we're finishing up work on a new TLK demo showing off how TLK makes game development easier. Here's a desktop image of the TLK Shaman demo:

Hope this helps out guys!

I am holding out. If / when a light kit for TSE comes out i'll buy it. There was a video last year that tested about TSE features being added etc. Was it DoomKill3er? Or something like that (video name).
