I'll make sure to check the CPU load and bandwidth usage at this player organized event :) It should be noted that the demo server (free) and the premium server are on 2 different machines and uplinks...

The timing on this is actually pretty good. I just posted this about version 1.1 on our forums:

Quote:Here's an exciting (at least to me) tidbit about the upcoming version 1.1

I have most of the work done on the central character server. This means that you'll be able to play your characters on any official world, as we add them.

We're also going to support seamless character transition from the demo to the full version of the game.

Of course, single player and player hosted worlds will remain features.

By centralizing the characters, we can add world server after world server to support more and more players... who can choose to play together in the same world... or not ;)

A quick update:

We hit 60 with 18% CPU load and 10% bandwidth usage on a 10 meg pipe :) This, in combination with the upcoming Central Character Server for version 1.1, means we'll easily be able to hit 1200+ players with just 4 servers... that is awesome.

The main server running the world server and all 14 zone servers is a dual xeon 3.2ghz machine if I remember correctly (although I'm sure Josh will correct me if I'm mistaken... =).

How about RAM? HD (SATA?), etc.

It's a Dual Xeon 3.2 ghz, 1 gigabyte RAM, with a 100 megabit upstream, running Windos Server 2003.

A linux server is a priority post version 1.1 ... I have no date on the Linux Server

A linux version of the game itself is not planned at this time.
