Hardware configuration for Torque Shader developer

by Roshan Kuriyan · in Hardware Issues · 02/06/2006 (10:06 pm) · 1 replies

Hi all,

I am a newbie and I have purchased the TSE Commercial version license and have downloaded the engine source and compiled it successfully.

Anyone advise me on the ideal configuration of the system which I should own as a developer. Please provide me the minimum configuration and the best configuration separately.

Thanx in advance.

Well, the system requirements page for TSE says

Windows 2000/XP
Pentium 1 GHz
256 MB RAM
DirectX 9 Compatible 3D Graphics Accelerator - WITH LATEST GRAPHICS DRIVERS

But I assume that's just to run it, as the 1.7 GHz, 512MB RAM machine I had wasn't up to coding, artwork and shader testing with several windows open. And it just about ran the TSE demo.

Out of frustration I spent an awful lot of money on a dual core 3.2 Ghz Pentium D, 2 gig of RAM, dual 7800 GTX SLI cards, 30" flat panel and half a terabyte of disk for the media. That's how you save money by only paying 100 dollars for your game engine :-) Overkill for sure, but it doesn't creak at the seams any more. I can't tell you how anything in between those two systems would perform though.

Dave.
