Game Design Instructors seeking Schools
by Davey Jackson · in Torque in Education · 12/19/2005 (5:37 pm) · 13 replies
Many of our community members are currently, previously have been, or are seeking to become game design/game art instructors. Here is a place to hold up your flag and advertise your skills. We have run into a high demand for qualified instructors at high schools, community colleges, technical colleges and universities. Many of these positions are even available without a degree as long as your knowledge base is strong enough.
As GarageGames expands its presence in education we will have an even higher demand for experienced developers who can teach Torque. Many of these positions are part time, and provide a great way of earning supplemental income to finance your game.
If you are interested please post your contact information, general location/metropolitan area, relevant educational and work experience and a brief overview of your game design and computer skills. Please also include the number of years you have been working with Torque and a list of any Torque Games, resources, or projects you have worked on.

Location: Bucharest, Romania
Notes: Torque SDK Owner
Primary Skill: 3D Artist (Advanced) - 2d Artist (advanced)
Skill2: Web Developer (Skilled)
Skill3: Writer (Advanced)
Specialty: 2d/3d GAME art - focus on Game design and Level design
Entered games industry through the 'mod' community around Halflife 1, later, Halflife 2(Source) first as a mapper, later on as a texture artist and modeler - level designer. Had my own mod in the works (Awedays) until Source came to life and abandoned the project switching to Torque Game Engine. Other engines (and areas of interest/knowledge) - Unreal Engine, Kaneva, 3dGameStudio, PixelRiver (an engine based on Softimage's XSI 3d app - ceased developement);
I have also experience using Renderware products from my previous job (outsourcing for AAA titles).
Primary 3d app of choice: XSI
Sec. 3d app: Maya
Other packages : Max, Milkshape, Cinema4d, Silo, Modo, ZBrush..
Primary 2d App of choice: Photoshop
Primary 2d app :) (currently using it for Torque) GIMP
BSP editing: Worldcraft (hammer v3.5), Hammer (Source); Quark, Cartography Shop
Compositional software :After effects, Combustion, Lustre, Softimage XSI.
Experience using source control software: Perforce, NXN Alienbrain with all listed applications above.
Primary focus on game and level design, crafting worlds.. Lack of coder skills moved my interest onto cration of enhanced content packs and learning wares - encompassing all the areas of interests arounf Torque Artisitic Pipeline.
Current work:
Level Designer Kit For Torque (former Mapping Kit); GUI Designer, Sundscapes (enhanced content packs)
Game design and research/preproduction for Unfortunate Endeavours, Medievault.
Asset crafting for Bootleggers (a simple starter.race example but driven to the limit using the new features of TGE 1.4)
Gramofon (a pending game, actually my first project) - music multiplayer - awaiting better control over the sound system in TGE.
I am not sure I can apply to this due to my location (East Europe) but i give it a chance..

Barry Gallagher

Skills:
The main one worth mentioning is a couple of years experience specifically with 3d modelling, animation, texturing with torque in 3dmax. I know the Torque exporter like the back of my hand at this stage. Experience explaining torque art pipeline to fellow team members on the game "Project Raven" aswell as at Bcfe where i am a game design student. Have even helped Maya users by trying to translate the information using the maya guide, even though i dont actually have Maya myself. As i like to say "Same concepts, different buttons!".
excerpt from guide for team member .."The pivot point of a mesh is the center of rotation. But it can be moved independently if needed. If you understand pivot points you understand bones. By applying bones
to a model you are merely giving one mesh multiple pivot points."
Played sports for ireland in youth-early adulthood, which is where i developed my coaching ear as i was formerly coaching kids ages 17-19.
Basic experience making maps.
Experience in a ICT Graphic design house, Dublin using photoshop aswell as obvious experience texturing 3d models, creating gui.
Rudimentary experience programming. Very aware of the principles of programming due to Game design course but not experienced in the actual execution. I know how to design a game on paper for a coder in principles.
Current game projects:
www.projectraven.com
email:
barrygallagher (@) projectraven.com
additional:
Im a student myself and would be able to clue into the mindset very easily. The part-time hours would also be very suitable to myself.
