Conspiracy theory on AGP / PCI E and socket 478 CPU's

Argh there are no Intel Socket 478 P4's with a PCI - E.

I found a model Asus P4GD1 but no one has it in stock. I checked bunch of places in Canada and UK too.

I hate to buy a whole new CPU. I have a prescott 2.8 HT and a gig of dual channel memory specced to intel's
chipset (certified memory list). It took me weeks to find the right set of memory.

But now I want a PCI video card it's like like Nvidia ATI intel and MB makers conspired to make people
kinda have to buy the new socket CPU's.

Whatever you do, don't buy a PCI card. They're probably by far worse than motherboard intergrated graphics. I got away pretty good by buying a Radeon 9800PRO for about $100 and modding it to a 9800XT (Retail ~$175)

I believe he means PCI Express, not PCI. It's not really a conspiracy, it's just that when they make new stuff, it works with the other new stuff they make. Not a lot of reason to make it go backward.

Ah, I see what he means then. I've never heard of a 478/PCI-E (x16) in one motherboard, so you're outta luck. You need to research throughly before buying a computer in the future if that is your concern; they have been planning PCI-E since 2001 and Intel has been implementing their LGA sockets for quite some time now. It only makes sense to make new, higher throughput circuits.

Theres always asrock.... http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=MBA-P4D880P&af=50 It supports agp and pci - express. Perfect solution! I've only ever bought asrock boards and i find them to be very stable.
