Starsiege: 2845 Alpha (TGE Video)

A brief intro: Starsiege: 2845 is a game that follows the continuity of one of the games that some of the GG staff (ex-Dynamix crew) released back in 1999 (Starsiege). Starsiege also had a sister game named Starsiege: Tribes, which had several subsequent sequels. Starsiege itself was a sequel to the Earthsiege mecha games. Starsiege: 2845 began as an idea of a mod on the Battlefield: 1942 engine, started work on the Unreal Tournament 2004 engine (after Vivendi Universal approved it as an "official mod" in its legal use of old assets from previous "MetalTech" titles), moved to Tribes: Vengeance after the beta release, as per its agreement with VU, and is now on TGE (T:V had too many limitatons as an engine to accomodate 2845.) When TSE is released, it will move on to that.

An alpha of the game (not a demo or even a beta, just a technology demo) will be released later this month (possibly early October, no promised release date.) This video is intended to advertise that release. Partially representative of the actual gameplay, Starsiege: 2845 will be a combined arms game, much akin to the Battlefield games in its use of multiple vehicle and weapons assets. It has been in development for two years now, I believe. Vehicles and playable vehicles and assets include, but may not be limited to: pilots, infantry, infiltrators (giant armored suits akin to olden Tribes armor), turrets, various small infantry vehicles, fast assault tanks, fighter-bombers, troop transports, juggernaught-class tanks (artillery), and light/medium/heavy class Herculans (mechs). In the video you will see flyers, infantry, the human buggy vehicle (a small infantry vehicle), and light Herculans.
The final TSE version will make great use of the vast Atlas terrain that is promised, as well as extensive use of the shader and lighting technologies. Many models you may see have been put together in the few weeks the TGE version has been in development, as previous versions were built for Tribes: Vengeance and UT2K4, which supported such things.
You can read more about Starsiege: 2845 here. The game is made by volunteers at the expense of their personal time and finances, led by the efforts of CCD (Clancore).

Hmm. Not enough people have seen this...this is a hell of a show-off video. They have some great art (I really like the terrain texture for the ash world). I highly suggest checking it out and seeing TGE (not TSE) pushed to the next level.

I think the ATR will have three or four maps. I know Venus, Mars and Luna (the moon) are in there at least. The final release won't have any Sol system maps, they'll all be other-worldly.
I think that archology you see at first (the huge building) was actually done by Tim Aste, and they left it in just because they admired his work so much. (His work is indeed stunning in many cases.) :D

The ash world is actually Mars, as far as the storyline is concerned. Some people have pointed out that the flyer shouldn't have trails on Mars due to the low moisture content, but 1) as far as the story goes, Mars is in the first stages of heavy terraforming and subequently has a much greater moisture content and 2) they just haven't put in the ability to make the trails map-specific. :) I think the ATR will have three or four maps. We plopped it in there and increased the size a thousand fold for craps and giggles and it looked perfect so we left it.

The large building is actually one of the buildings from his content pack 2.
