The Game Boy Micro.
Nintendo, don't you have a NEW handheld out? Here's a novel thought: Start supporting that one.
What really gets me is this:
So we take a system that came out in 2001 (I think), make 2 new versions of it (one of which is released after the new handheld; the DS), and charge $100 to the consumer for each new version. We also shrink it (because the game boy wasn't SMALL enough : }) and improve the screen. Excellent.
Keep in mind what you're purchasing; a 4 year old system at $70 more than an original costs on Ebay. ($60 more if you want the SP)
For $30 more you can get a DS, which can play all of the GBA games and has the abylity to play BOTH of the DS games.

Quote:The console has a 2-inch LCD screen, smaller than the current Game Boy Advance SP but with a sharper, backlit screen that is said to be superior to even the Nintendo DS.

On top of that, I see the GBA Micro as inferior to the SP for the simple fact that the screen is smaller. I really like the flip screen on the SP as well. I guess Nintendo will make money on people who think their getting a bargan by buying the GBA Micro, and don't realize that for only $30 more they could have everything they have with the GBA Micro but twice as much, a higher technology, and a new way to play games.

I would have just made the DS the next Game Boy and just called it the Game Boy DS. It just doesn't make sense that it can play GBA games but it's not the next GB. And like George said, for $30 more I could just get a DS and still only play GBA games if I wanted to but the option to play DS games is there should a DS game I'm interested in ever come out. I played the DS Pacman game and it's a fun little waste of time. On top of that, I see the GBA Micro as inferior to the SP for the simple fact that the screen is smaller. Perhaps it's time to Blizzard to dip into their back-catalog again and release Warcraft and Warcraft 2 for the DS.

Actually, your right, they did turn Age of Empires into a more civ based title, but that wasn't Nintendo's decision, it was Majesco's. Still there's two on the way, assuming Majesco doesn't turn Black and White: Creatures into just a virtual pet before release.Perhaps it's time to Blizzard to dip into their back-catalog again and release Warcraft and Warcraft 2 for the DS.

About 80 out of 100 kids from 10-13 all said they'd get a smaller GBA (aka the Micro) cause one its easier to carry in pockets, and two they can carry more games with it in the same space, and majority of them already own a GBA, and a GB SP.
We also live in a rich area, so if the kids want it, the parents will buy it for them.

Just wanted to add that you people all assume your the market that Nintendo is selling the Micro to. Its to people who either own a GBA or people who dont own one at all. Hell, people bought gameboy pockets didn't they? There was nothing new except for being smaller. Nintendo has done the miniaturization before, and they're doing it again. Not to resell to everyone who just bought an SP or DS, but to people who haven't.

My girlfriend did a quick poll at her work the other day. This is off the topic of game boys but the fact that Nintendo's audience is is the younger audience is hurting them. sure the kids who live in rich familys will probably get whatever they want but all the other kids have a (very) limited supply of money. Where as somebody who was 17+ and had a job would have a lot more money to spend sadly kiddy games wouldn't be what they were spending it on.

On the other hand that would be why Nintendo's next console won't be $400 or even $300. More likely $200 or lower. That way parrents will be willing to buy it for Christmas or birthdays. At least Nintendo knows its market. I don't think its hurting them.-Peter

But on the other hand, there is never a short supply of children in the world.
As for the GBA Micro, the Game Boy Color came out when there wasn't another hand held product on the market by Nintendo. The DS should be the next Game Boy. Their messing up the natural evolution of their hand held. Homoerectus--->Neanderthal--->Human.
Not Homoerectus--->Neanderthal--->Human
/////////////////////////////////////////// '--->Micro Neanderthal
But they're both gonna make money which is good for them. Some people may even buy both. Smart move by Nintendo. Stupid move for anyone who falls for it.

As far as their "kiddy" image hurting Nintendo, I think it is and it isn't. Everyone who has grown up playing Nintendo's games from the NES and SNES eras have grown up. Therefore most of them are interested in more mature games than what the majority of Nintendo's games are. They have moved on. Some still play Nintendo games (like myself). And Nintendo does try to cater to the adult gamer from time to time. (obvious I know)But on the other hand, there is never a short supply of children in the world.

I myself wouldn't like a handheld that small... I would greatly prefer something PSP or DS sized... or even TI-92 sized :P

However, if it takes a huge dive in price and has a keychain ring, I may get one for convenience. :D
