The Game Boy Micro.
Nintendo, don't you have a NEW handheld out? Here's a novel thought: Start supporting that one.
What really gets me is this:
So we take a system that came out in 2001 (I think), make 2 new versions of it (one of which is released after the new handheld; the DS), and charge $100 to the consumer for each new version. We also shrink it (because the game boy wasn't SMALL enough : }) and improve the screen. Excellent.
Keep in mind what you're purchasing; a 4 year old system at $70 more than an original costs on Ebay. ($60 more if you want the SP)
For $30 more you can get a DS, which can play all of the GBA games and has the abylity to play BOTH of the DS games.

Did anyone else notice that Nintendo's so called 'Port' of Super Mario 64 to the DS wasn't REALLY a port. Rather, (from my very limited knowledge and understanding) they redid all of the assets (code, art, etc) to be able to work on the DS... Which would explain why it took around a year to develop.
I got the DS in the hopes that we would see something Zelda OoT-esque, but it doesn't look like it's powerful enough.
Everything would have to be redone, but even then, parts would have to be cut.
Nintendo, you tricked us.

Wait so your telling us that the DS isn't even as powerful as the N64?? While the PSP is almost as powerful as the PS2. I knew the DS was weaker but I didn't realize it was that much weaker. But no, no. I need to give Nintendo a break. It's not the power of the system that matters, it's the games. lol All two of them!-Ajari-

Even so... I'm pretty close to giving up on Nintendo... they had better hope the Revolution is pretty bloody revolutionary.

One of the big deals with Game Boy Micro, which would make its purchase of any interest, was that it was going to be much cheaper than the Nintendo DS. With that price, Nitendo really deserves a big loss with this machine.

Firstly, the DS just about pips the N64 in terms of power. Secondly, it's been said that to port OoT, and for that matter, just about any N64 code to the DS is relatively simple. Zelda DS is in the works, and it's not a four swords type adventure like previously thought.
As for price, well, miniaturisation isn't free, you know? Nintendo are generally pretty good with pricing, so I'd wager that they're not getting too much of a profit off of this one. Considering also it's aimed at people who don't have a GBA but don't really want a DS, it won't be a huge seller regardless of the price.

It's no where NEAR as powerfull as the PSP, though, but the PSP costs $100 more, and so far, I enjoy the DS games more than the PSP ones.
I agree that the whole GBA miro is kind of a stupid idea, IMHO, but then again, people buy them iPODs left and right, and those aren't much more than a flashy MP3 player.

The DS can actually push more polys and handle higher res textures than the N64, it just doesn't have any texture filtering(which is sad). The port of Super Mario 64 actually ADDED stuff that wasn't in the original release, and increased the poly count on the character models. It's no where NEAR as powerfull as the PSP, though, but the PSP costs $100 more, and so far, I enjoy the DS games more than the PSP ones.

LOL I am litteraly at work laughing so hard my stomach is hurting. What are you two, the "Nintendo Protectors" or something? You guys go from forum to forum putting out the fires cast on Nintendo by the evil non believers. lol And you guys are always together. (Movie announcer guys voice): "Where ever there is someone slandering the Nintendo, Matt and Joshua will be there to uphold the Nintendo brand in the name of Super Mario!!" I guess George and I are the evil villans then. :p :p :p

It would be nice if someone worked on getting an emulator into the DS for the N64.

I don't want a new zelda game; I want OoT and Majora's Mask on the DS. :)It would be nice if someone worked on getting an emulator into the DS for the N64.

The DS doesn't have an anolog stick, either, and so far the attempts and 'emulating' one using the touch screen have been a bit underwhelming, so I don't think a port of OoT of Majora's Mask would feel right. Of course, I DO want a new zelda game for the DS... When I want to play OoT or Majora's Mask, I can always put the disk into my gamecube.
08/22/2005 (1:56 pm)
Hehe, the DS is no where near powerfull enough to run an N64 emulator, unfortunatly. That's why the N64 games that have been re-released on the DS have all been ports(Mario64, Ridge Racer, Rayman). The DS doesn't have an anolog stick, either, and so far the attempts and 'emulating' one using the touch screen have been a bit underwhelming, so I don't think a port of OoT of Majora's Mask would feel right. I don't mind using the touch screen to emulate an analog stick. Works quite well for me! Anyway, the Game Boy Micro is a bit of an overkill but I guess Nintendo just wants to make sure to completely shut Sony out of the handheld market so they've aiming high and low. The DS as of this summer has great support with lots of great titles. Kirby Canvas Curse, Meteos, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Bomberman DS, and Nintendogs are all great titles!

I think the GBA micro is an extemely good investment as GBA hardware sales have been killer with previous iterations (SP). And in terms of systems sold, the DS doesnt come close. but neither does any other system portable or not- exluding previous GB and NES.
I agree with Jeremy finding it awkward emulating an analog control with the touch screen. But damn can it emulate a mouse. Where are the freakin RTS's dammit.
08/22/2005 (2:41 pm)
Back to the point of the original poster, they have said on numerous occasions they are going to support the GBA and the DS independently. The DS is not the GBA's successor. That's why you're seeing software titles for the DS like Nintendogs, Electroplankton, and the Brain Exercise line. Those are geared towards a different audience, an audience not supported by any other platform. That's a point I can really appreciate.I think the GBA micro is an extemely good investment as GBA hardware sales have been killer with previous iterations (SP). Actually, I think they're changing Age of Empires to be turn based. Not surprising since it's Nintendo, but that's pretty ridiculous. Take one of the best RTS games ever made, put it on a system that is only good for playing RTS games, and change it to turn based.

One thing is for sure it does have a nice collection of games backing it up.
08/23/2005 (2:17 am)
I think the biggest problem the micro will face is that it is a four year old system and offers nothing new. The other problem is the SP can take a lot of abuse before it breaks. So what they are left with is a market that will buy it because it is the "new" handheld or they could try to market it to people who don't have a GBA-SP.One thing is for sure it does have a nice collection of games backing it up.
