Help with a new mission.

by Jace · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 08/14/2005 (2:01 am) · 27 replies

Hello everyone I am relatively new to TSE and I have not been able to port Starter.FPS from TGE for the life of me. I have been trying for nearly a week. I did however get a semi-working version of this guide:

http://www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=25295

But again it is only SEMI working when I try to create a new mission from the demo app I fall right through the terrain everytime. So I guess my question would be does anyone have a clean ported version of starter.fps for TSE?

I am not asking for someone to do the work for me I have put in alot of effort but the effort has not yielded any result. I would really like to start developing my world soon so please if you can help, as for anyone that feels the need to reference a resource about TSE I have already read them. ("As of 8/14/05") Don't get me wrong I like tooling around in the demo app but I can only watch the orc dance so much before I tire of it.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post I do appreciate the thought even if your unable to help.

If I can make the changes, I'll see about sedning it to you.

No sure if it would make a good resource as TSE is always changing... so I/someone else would have to keep updating it.

If possible, please upload it someplace. I'm sure there are alot of people wanting to play around with the new TSE engine.

Once you complete it email me the source and I can host it on my dedicated box. It is good to see I am not the only one to have problems with this.

Oh also Joseph I can help keep it up to date it is just hard when you don't have a base to start on.

There will soon be a sizable bounty for a quality starter.fps conversion from TGE to TSE. For those of you who have already ported it, you might want to start polishing it up to make some cash. Josh will be announcing soon.

My one was working pretty well... I better get working on it again, I was also looking at porting the starter.racing over to TSE as well. :)no

By quality port I'd imagine he means making use of shaders and such, not simply getting the old one working in TSE, at least that's what I hope because a version of the starter.fps showing off all of the new toys in TSE and not simply showing off all the old toys in the new engine would be pretty useful ;)

In Waiting GG, Iv'e done it...
I don't know, if it's the best solution but... it works. There is still some errors in the log but you can run around.
To run it, you have to extract files in example folder. (be sure to have common, shaders and creator directories at same same level that tse_starter.fps). You will also have, of course to modify the root main.cs and at line 6 write
$defaultGame = "tse_starter.fps";

Let me know if you have trouble with it, Espcecially Frame Rate (It run with 1 Digit FPS on my GeForce 6800).

Joseph, I took one hour to make it run. It has probably a lot of bugs... But as you say it kinda runnig..

When you say a lot of problems... can you tell me more... so I could focus directly on these probs to solve them and upload a new version on my site...

What is your "mectric(fps);" (in console)????

For the momment I focus on the FPS metric ....

File missings : I Know Difs are not in this version... But perhaps there is some other missing files?

Sorry for my poor english, I'm a frenchy guy...

Grr... I wish I had a decent place to host screen-shots... I've already got all of the DIF's converted an sitting around that little pond. :(

Ohh... they joys of showing off... hehe

One thing, though... the shadows on the buildings look like crap... something I did wrong, or is everyone else seeing the same thing?
